  1. lol it sucks but it could be worse. Weird how this would happen after a bios upgrade though! Makes me wonder if its actually the ram…maybe a bad slot
  2. I did try multiple BIOS re-flashes, even with different USB devices. I'll try a chkdsk and a memtest
  3. Please help! So I decided to do a fresh Windows install since it's been a few years. I also noticed my BIOS was hella out of date so I updated that as well (upgraded to bios version 2603). Ever since upgrading the BIOS, my PC is bluescreening frequently - I even had to make multiple attempts at installing Windows 10 because it would blue screen during the install. After about 4 attempts I finally got Windows installed but now it's blue screening all over the place. Specs: Motherboard: ASUS X Hero (WiFi AC) CPU: i7 8700k RAM: 32GB DDR4 GPU: EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080 New BIOS version: Version 2603
  4. Here's what the manual says for expansion slots: Slot 1 - PCIe x1_1 slot Slot 2 - PCIe x16/x8_1 slot Slot 3 - PCIe x1_2 slot Slot 4 - PCIe x8_2 slot Slot 5 - PCIe x1_3 slot Slot 6 - PCIe x4_3 slot
  5. Thanks I'll check that out, I edited my original post to include the motherboard I have (Asus Hero X)
  6. got it, so I should be able to run multiple 1x pci devices without affecting the GPU at all?
  7. I’m looking to add a WiFi 6 PCIe card to my PC, but I’m not sure if I’d have enough available PCI lanes. I have a feeling I’m already pulling available lanes from my graphics card, but I’m not 100% sure how it works exactly. Motherboard: Asus Hero X CPU: 8700k (16 lanes) GPU: 3080 FTW3 (16x) NVMe SSD: Samsung 960 EVO (4x) Sound Card: Sound Blaster Z (1x)
  8. Hey all, hoping someone can help. I've got a MSI Z97a Gaming 7 motherboard that won't POST. Error code is "Boot Guard verified DXE that is fail". Research tells me that this is a corrupt BIOS issue, but it looks like the BIOS on this board can only be flashed from within the BIOS lol This thing has been serving as a Plex server for many years and this started happening after I moved the rig to another room. Troubleshooting steps tried so far: - cleared CMOS battery - tried flipping BIOS profiles via bios switch Full components list: Mobo: MSI Z97a Gaming 7 CPU: 4770k RAM: 32 GB DDR3 GPU: Asus Strix 1080Ti PSU: EVGA 1300 G+ (overkill I know) SSD: Samsung 860 Evo M.2
  9. @unitcharles did you ever find a solution to this? I'm also having the same problem with my Asus Hero VII motherboard
  10. Hi Everyone, Quick question, I'm running a Sound Blaster Z sound card with 2x 980s in SLI. Could my sound card be affecting my GPU performance by taking lanes away from the graphics cards? I understand that the 4790k supports a maximum of 16 lanes, and the graphics cards use 8 lanes each, I'm just not sure how the motherboard & CPU react when the sound card is thrown into the mix. OS - Windows 10 CPU - i7 4790k Mobo - Asus Maximus VII Hero
  11. in my opinion, its pointless to buy a high end graphics card and pair it up with a 60hz monitor. You'll be limited to 60 fps and will never get to see the true potential of your graphics card. I switched from 60hz to 144 (powered by a 970) and I'll never look back. It just feels so much smoother and higher quality. Even transitions in Windows look prettier!
  12. I have a GTX 970 Strix with an Asus 144hz 1080p monitor. All games run super smooth on Ultra with no hiccups. couldn't be happier!
  13. Dual Link DVI only supports up to 120hz. Use a displayport cable and call it a day.
