  1. Hello all, So I'm starting to overclock my i5 4690k, right now im at 4.4GHz and have set my CPU volts to 1.275 Im running stress tests (aida, ITB, OCCT,cinebench, realbench), and on HWmonitor & occt readings, the vcore is between 0.931-0.942 && the VID is at my set volts 1.275. I thought vcore is the volts that is currently being sent through the CPU while VID is the reading of my set volts? So why is vcore not going above 0.942? Is it a BIOS setting that is stopping this? or am i misinterpreting what vcore means? Additional info: my motherboard is ASUS Maximus VII Ranger Thanks all. Also, when should i touch LLC? its set to AUTO right now. & any other suggestions will be helpful.
  2. This is a real curveball because I've been doing some thinking... Im a college student, and I know a lot of my fellow peers use laptops... Say I got a decent laptop, would that be a viable option to use as a streaming PC? My idea is that instead of spending money upgrading my PC components, I could put that money towards a good laptop that I could use for college but also a streaming PC. Is there any precautions i should take with this idea? Thanks a lot for taking your time with me and all of your insights.
  3. Hmm, im thinking... What if i got the 8700k, then used my old i5 and build a small pc to encode my stream? Would I need a GPU on the encoding PC or?
  4. Okay, I'll try to take a look into that. But in your opinion, what CPU would be the best right now for streaming and getting good 120+fps in game?
  5. I suppose what I mean is that I want the game to run smoothly while streaming. "Smoothly" meaning getting 120+ frames without having to set ingame settings at low. When I'm playing these games whilst streaming, my CPU is running at almost 100% at all times. & What do you mean by benchmark I can test "against"? && Oh gotcha, where can i find a good standard for VRMs that support certain CPUs?

I Can stream WoW fine, but i'd like to be able to enjoy streaming other games. && What is the significance of VRM quality? Also, what CPU or upgrades would you recommend given my usages and problems. Thank you for taking the time
  7. Hello all, Let me start off with my current specs CPU: Overclocked Intel Core i5 4690K Quad-Core (4.0GHz-4.7GHz) Power Supply: 850 Watt Corsair RM850 Motherboard: ASUS Maximus VII Ranger Graphic Cards: Dual 4GB NVIDIA GTX 970 Memory: 16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 1866Mhz (2x8GB) This build has hit its 4 year mark, and its black friday/cyber monday, so I think now is the time to upgrade and capitalize on some of the upcoming deals. My PC has been being used for gaming & streaming. My biggest hold backs as of recently have been poor gaming performance while streaming, and even whilst not streaming. Im guessing my biggest bottleneck is my CPU. But to upgrade my CPU, in my understanding I'll have to get a new motherboard and RAM along with it? Since the new MB/CPU's require DDR4 RAM? Anyways, I've been looking at the i7 8700k. From the research I've conducted, its a good CPU for gaming and streaming. My biggest question, which is why I am making this post, is which motherboard should I get? Yes i know, I can compare motherboards on my own, but when im looking at the features and specs, I dont know exactly what I'm looking at. I suppose for reference, I want something close to the features my current motherboard is offering. Idk if I'll be overclocking, but a motherboard that has good OC features is something i know nothing about. These are the MB I am currently looking at: https://pcpartpicker.com/products/compare/3MJkcf,9PtWGX,DXCrxr,tqKhP6/ Asus - Prime Z370-A Asus - ROG Strix Z370-H Gaming MSI - Z370 GAMING PRO CARBON Asus - ROG MAXIMUS X HERO (WI-FI AC) Im wondering if im making a good choice with these upgrades and ignoring the GPU upgrade for now because of budget reasons. If doing these upgrades, will my GPU's be a huge bottle neck? I should also note i game at 1080p Anyways, thanks for taking your time. Hope you guys can give me some good feedback and not troll on this post. Lol. 8. Well I've had my rig for almost 15 months now. I'm still pleased with its performance. But I guess i can either deal with the lag i get when i want to stream and upgrade my MB and get a better processor with the new MB later this year.. Or upgrade my cpu now and do the new MB beginning of next year... You've made great points and i appreciate your input. It's helped me a lot
  9. Yes I have, I've also messed with settings within OBS to try and increase it's fluidity whilst streaming and gaming but doesn't seem to do much unless I really down the quality of the stream which is something I'd rather not do. I game at 1080p and right now i play games like WoW, CS Go, GTA V, H1Z1, Battlefield 4, Far Cry 4.... Etc. I plan on getting gears when they decide to release it to pc...
  10. Yeah my performance is fine. But im gaining interest in streaming which is why i was considering an upgrade.. Because I feel like my i5 is holding me back from doing so...
  11. So if my gpu loads are upwards of 99%, then my CPU is not bottle-necking? What if both CPU and GPU are upwards of 99% or only CPU is upwards of 99%? Because I am starting to gain interest in Twitch streaming, and when I stream with OBS, i notice a loss of frames in games. So I was assuming an upgrade to an i7 would fix that problem and might be a benefit to gaming whilst not streaming..?
  12. Okay so taking those CPUs into consideration, will they all be compatible with my ASUS Maximus VII Ranger motherboard? Because when i looked it said its compatible with 4th&5th gen intel processors.
  13. So I've been thinking about upgrading my computer recently... I'm pretty happy with my 2 970s. But I wonder if my i5 is bottlenecking them. So I was thinking about going to an i7. Would like some opinions on if I should upgrade and to which i7 I should upgrade to. Also I don't have a budget.
  14. Ahhh okay I see. When I reinstalled the drivers I had both cards in and they installed fine and the dsr option was there when I had sli enabled. But I don't think I'll turn dsr on then. I'm just happy I got my frames back. Thanks for all your help.
  15. So I uninstalled Geforce experience and downloaded the drivers off of Nvidia's website and did a clean install of the drivers. Once I did that, i restarted comp, checked out CS: GO & WoW.... Fps back to normal Question though, does disabling DSR improve FPS or reduce FPS?
