  1. I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your question, but can you answer one for me? How did you get to this screen shot on your PC? It looks like something a lot of PCs would have, I want to see if my MOBO has the same feature. I've downloaded some CPU temp programs that haven't been accurate in the past. Thanks if you can tell me!
  2. If you don't have time to read my story you can simply answer this question for me, what is a normal CPU temperature for an intel i7 980? (Or other intel i7s.) What is the optimal idle temp, and load temp? What temp is getting dangerously hot when it's too much? My CPU idle (just sitting in BIOS watching temp) today was 37C (98F), seems really hot for idle? If you do have time to read my story, here it is. Today I received my Noctua NH-U14S in the mail. I'm currently using an 3 year old liquid cooling system, that I'm replacing with the Noctua. This is the first time I have installed a CPU cooler before & my system before was installed for me. I took off the water block and noticed that it had a TON of thermal paste on it. In fact, is was even spilling off the edges slightly. Upon looking at the block, it looked like the whole thing where the CPU was (square shaped) had been covered in paste at one point. So I cleaned everything with iso 99% alcohol. Then....it came to my realization I had made a mistake, and the back plate with my Noctua was not compatible...I'm an using an LGA1366 motherboard. So I had to re install the liquid cooler for now until tomorrow so I could use my PC. So I ordered one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002N38S6U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This is the link to the product on Noctua: http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=30&lng=en So this should enable me to use my Noctua NH-U14S to my knowledge on my current motherboard until my overhaul upgrade. It's arriving tomorrow. So tomorrow I should be able to use my new Noctua, which I will be purchasing a 2nd fan for as well for push/pull. Previously in BIOS (So I guess you could say idle temp just sitting in BIOS) my CPU temp was 30C-31C all the time. I replaced a super old Koolance liquid in my water system today, very old, with simple distilled water. I also applied thermal paste when reinstalling my cooling system, but the paste was also very old (3+years ago) that came with the cooling system. Upon replacing my liquid system, (now with distilled water and reapplied thermal paste) my CPU temps in BIOS are 36-37C consistently. Why would this be? (5-6C higher than before I reinstalled) Also is this too hot? I'm using the same system (until I put on my Noctua tomorrow) but this time distilled water and new paste. Here is my question: Why would this be so much higher? Is it possibly because of replacing with distilled water?(Maybe not as good as Koolance?) Or because the paste is old? (But the paste on the CPU before was also just as old) Or would it possibly be because I didn't apply enough thermal paste? It seems like there was a TON before when I took this off. I put a moderate amount on but really not that much, because in all of Linus' videos he says/shows to only put a little bit. I'm really trying to figured out this tonight because tomorrow I will be installing the Noctua, and I want to make sure I'm applying the right amount of thermal paste. I applied a small amount right in the center, in a small line down the middle maybe 3/4 of a inch long.
  3. How do I mark a thread as "solved"? I found a system restore from literally like 2 hours ago, how freaking awesome was that.
  4. I mean I can try that....but I'm 100% sure it's because of this software that it isn't finishing loading my desktop. Like I said I'm in safe mode trying to uninstall the programs but it's giving me error messages as I mentioned in original post. Don't want to do a system restore if possibly because I have no idea how far that will go back.
  5. So I downloaded a few motherboard applications for my Gigabyte board. One of them required a restart so I did it. Upon doing so, windows loads normally until the desktop comes up, as soon as my desktop loads, I get a blue screen. I'm trying to start in safe mode and uninstall the programs. I had to restart again because the first time it wouldn't let me uninstall one of the programs...they were off the Gigabyte website. There are 2 of them that were recently installed, I'm unable to uninstall either in safe mode and they give me these messages. Program 1: Error 1719. Windows Installer service could not be accessed. Contact your support personnel to verify that it is properly registered and enabled. Program 2: Please wait until the current program is finished uninstalling or being changed. (Idk why it says this, I'm not even uninstalling anything when it says this.) Please help! I can't load windows because it blue screens. It's definitely a result of installing these 2 programs. They are 2 motherboard applications directly of Gigabyte's website.

  7. So I just ordered a noctua CPU cooler, yes we all know about noctuas colors. I was wondering since the fan is so easily removable if I can spray paint it? The reason I'm asking is I don't know if this would effect performance. As long as I don't get it in where the fan connects/rotates I should be ok? Just wondering if this is something you guys have done in the past and if this will effect my fan's performance in any way.
  8. Turns out the Noctua NH-U14S will fit in my case (barely). I went on their site and found the exact height in mm. I should be clear with about half an inch of room between the fans and the case. I am glad to see this so I can have a full performance Noctua. There is a possibility I might have to move my giant side case fan if it gets in the way. I can always replace it with up to 6 120mm fans if I reallllly wanted to. But I thin it should fit ok, gonna be close, hope this fan is worth it. My liquid cooling days are over.
  9. Unfortunately the manual nor the website has this information...=/
  10. Ok guys I'm struggling a bit here. Here's my case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811108376 Here are noctua's products: http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=63&lng=en&set=1 Most are around 160mm average which is a little over 6 inches...I've been measuring in my case and if it sticks out 6 inches it's gonna be really tough. I'm trying to find a high end CPU cooler and have been interested in Noctua. Even the 12s seem like they aren't much shorter =/ Any help? Edit: Maybe one like this? It's oriented different but it doesn't stick out as far as a result.
  11. I'm going to try this out and order on amazon now. I liked his setup a lot. He uses 2 noctua fans but only 1 headsink is it called? Compraed to some of the noctua fans I have seen which have 2 of the heatsinks and 2 of the fans which is so overkill...I like this setup because it's not only efficient but takes up less space. Thanks for you advice I think I'm going to try out air cooling my PC. I hope it's as cool as my current system is.
  12. yes it's corsair vengeance memory. Do you think a large CPU fan will fit like the noctua?
  13. Here is my case below: The Enermax fans on top stick down kinda low because there is a radiator above them. So if I had a fan they would be closer to the top. Do you even think a big Noctua will fit in my case with my ram right there?
  14. Is it loud? How great is the cooling? I'm just worried about it taking up so much space...and god I just wish they had different coloring LOL. I know there are black ones now but I don't think any black ones come on a CPU cooler.
