  1. thank you for the responses everyone it seems the 1080TI is a fairly easy consensus here with a few recommendations of 1080s and lower but i think i'll go all out and get the 1080TI since i can get a decent resale on my GTX 970s still which helps offset the cost
  2. Hello there! my current computer is: i7 4790k 2x GTX 970s 8gb RAM and its driving my 3440x1440p monitor but its starting to struggle with current triple A game for my desired 60fps stable (on as high settings as feasible, its a hard resolution to drive though) the CPU is still great, the RAM i'm unsure on but will double to 16gb anyway, so that just leaves the GPU situation. i'm going to sell the two 970s and buy something more modern. What would you recommend, would a single 1080TI suffice or is there other possibilities?
  3. Ambient room temperature is typically a few degrees higher than whatever outside is. Aircon is too expensive to run so i make do with fans and ice water. the computer is like having a heater in a room with absolutely terrible ventilation and i can physically feel the temperature change between my room and the rest of the house thanks for the advice everyone, i'll be putting it into effect tomorrow when the day is at its hottest so i can see what the temperatures look like and see if i get them into a good place. the day has already cooled down a bit here (its evening) but i've gotten the temperatures down a bit with the power management one. i appreciate all the fast responses!
  4. I've been having a bit of trouble with my computer. it has a 4790k and a nepton 240L cooler. up until recently its been completely fine, but i've started crashing a lot. we are starting to have 30 to 40 degree celcius days and my room in particular is an absolute hot box. we are too poor for air conditioning and very often my room is hotter than it is outside. Under a prime95 stress test while i was looking for the problem i saw my CPU hitting 100 degrees celcius. It's also 50 degrees at idle. far far higher temperatures than i'm comfortable with and i'm suspecting - the cause of the crashes. I cancelled the prime95 test very quickly upon seeing temps hit that high, i didn't want to subject it to them for long. Could i have a step by step guide to underclocking my CPU to reduce temperatures? i really want to be capping out at 80 degrees, not 100. I'm familiar with overclocking, although i haven't touched it in a while. My cpu currently is not overclocked at all
  5. Hey there, for reasons like having company over and having the convenience of a large TV, as well as streaming media through it like movies i was wondering how powerful the build needs to be? what kind of budget (in USD or AUD, i'm an australian specifically) should i have for such a PC? I don't currently have any parts i can re-use that i am aware of as i sold my last PC in its entirety to help fund my current build back at the end of last year. this would include steam streaming for games, my current computer is powerful enough i'd assume (4790k and 970 SLI) but i definitely don't want to have to buy anything quite as expensive as that for the streaming PC Do you have any particular recommendations in this area?
  6. thanks for the recommendations, so far i have those you listed and the T1 and a few others i'd really like to try if they are available.
  7. i'm definitely going to audition as many of the high end headphones that have been recommended as possible. Thanks to a few helpful people i know about the minidisc place now and i'll head there when i have time later this week. Glad to hear you thought they sounded amazing, i'm looking forward to trying them and the other high end headphones
  8. thanks for the information, i'll be saving up and researching for a while and the HD800s from the impressions people have had of them sound really good. i'll look into the high end as much as possible because i like making the most informed decision possible. i think i'm pretty sold on budgetting for something very high end in the headphone department along with the necessary amp and such to drive it. that eargasm is exactly what i'm looking for!
  9. thanks for the recommendation, i'll make sure to research up on that one too. I have HD800s in the title and on my mind mostly because its got a reputation so i heard about it. people mention "HD800s best headphones" etc, but if there's one that is a better option for me i'd be completely willing. not locked into one camp mind made up on anything yet haha
  10. I'll look into them, how do they stack up to the 800s? when it comes to music i tend to like classical stuff, but rock as well. i'm not really confined into a single genre which is an annoying answer indecisive people give but i honestly do listen to a fairly wide range. my favourite two genres however are classical and rock which is why i mention them first. Does that make the neutral nature of the HD800s a benefit? I honestly don't really know what audiophiles mean that much when they say something is warm or otherwise. I love music (and by extension i also enjoy games with very good music, like paradox titles) and being immersed so i'm attracted to the idea of setting a budget to save for something very high end as a christmas gift to myself, but my knowledge is severely lacking.
  11. Hey there, so i love listening to music, and i do it pretty much the majority of the time i'm on the computer. currently i have a much more modest headphone setup of the AD900x. I've never really experienced the high end of audio, i have the best pair of headphones of anyone i know (i don't know many people mind you). Also i live in Australia so our offering is pretty terrible, i haven't seen a store that lets you demo HD800s (not that i know many good stores.., common trend of me not knowing much) anyway, have you personally ever bought high end audio like HD800s? What was your experience with it like? thanks a lot, i'm considering whether i will budget for them or equivalent, along with the required amp+dac to drive them as i certainly don't have that at the moment
  12. Hello there, i'm looking to have a quadruple monitor setup (ridiculous, i know). i currently own a 34" ultrawide from Dell with a VESA mount, the U3415W. i want to mount them with the U3415W being above the others and angled down towards my eyes as when doing research i am completely unable to find any way to mount it with other monitors as its far too large. i then want to have three monitors lower in front of me and to the sides. This sounds to me like it will require two different monitor stands or maybe a monitor stand and a wall mount for the U3415W. i know very little about monitor stands and these kind of setups, any advice would be appreciated greatly. I have two GTX 970s in 2 way SLI, can i even support 4 inputs? I don't want to game on multiple monitors at the same time however, my ultrawide satisfies my widescreen gaming needs, the other monitors are purely for productivity / being an awesome setup. monitor recommendations and stand recommendations and advice on how to pull the setup off would be greatly, greatly appreciated.
  13. i meant a DAC, not an amp, for improving sound quality. i know the AD900x has low enough impedence it doesnt need the amp part
  14. to jump into this thread which will probably attract knowledgeable people without spamming the forum with my own thread, if anyone can answer my question at the same time as OPs - Which DAC would be suitable for a pair of AD900x headphones and how much benefit would i hear from getting one?
  15. I've settled on the dell myself. when you always say waiting a generation will make it better, unfortunately that's always the case haha! when i picked up my ROG Swift i knew it wouldn't be the latest and greatest forever and that acer predator one came out fairly recently. So i never mind getting something now rather than waiting because ultimately tech never stays the latest and greatest for long
