  1. So my friend ran into an issue with his PC: A few days ago the power supply died. Today, he got a replacement, wired up everything, and turned on his computer. When the system tries to boot, he gets the "Error Loading Operating System" message. He has his SSD set to his boot drive. He's tried reseating all his cables, and he tried loading up windows from a USB drive. Any help is appreciated:P His Specs: i7 4790k ASUS Motherboard (idk what model exactly)
  2. That's what I was thinking at first, but then I figured if i could possibly find a decent functioning x79 mobo, if the performance would be worth the upgrade
  3. General gaming. Mostly csgo which is cpu intensive (idk if it can use more than 4 core though). Some video editing on the side, but nothing too major.
  4. I plan on upgrading soon, and I want to do most of my upgrades at once. This includes switching over to intel for the first time. I have two options: 1) I can buy a Sandy Bridge 3930k off a friend for ~$200 2) I can buy a new a new 4790k for ~$300 So, my question is: is it more practical to upgrade to Haswell? I haven't followed cpus closely since the end of the ivy bridge era, so I have no idea how the two cpus compare. The motherboard for the 3930k would probably be more expensive and it would be harder to find, but I don't know if the performance of the 6 cores would exceed that of the 4970. Any advice? Also, I plan on upgrading my GPU and PSU so power and bottle-necking won't be a problem.
  5. So i just got a new ssd,and im gonna reformat my PC. My question is: do I have to reformat my HDD that didn't hold my OS? I had two HDDs in my PC but do I have to reformat the HDD that didn't store the OS?
  6. I love Skyrim and and Oblivion. I've played the crap out of both. Is it too late to really get into Morrowind?
  7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9RnIj-EcdQ Here's a video showing you how to clear the CMOS.
  8. Turn off your system, unplug the PSU, and flip the switch on the PSU. Consult your manual if you don't know where the CMOS jumper is. When you find it, there should be a pin cover on it over two of the three pins. With everything off, move the cover over to the other 2 pins and leave it there for 15 or 20 seconds. Then move the cover back to the original position. If your motherboard didn't come with this jumper, you can use a screw driver to jumper the two pins. You can check on Youtube. There are a couple videos showing you how to clear the CMOS. WARNING: The CMOS resets your bios so any overclock you had will be lost, unless you have it saved in your overclocking profiles.
  9. I'm looking for a new anti-virus software. I can't decide between AVG or Avast. Does anybody have any opinions or other suggestions before I make a decision?
  10. Check your temps and make sure you're not overheating. Check all your power plugs and make sure your PSU cord is in all the way. If that doesn't work, clear the CMOS. If the problem persists, it might be a bios problem.
  11. no, I know how. Thanks for your help! Fixed this in a day!
  12. When I log in now, i gett a white screen with my mouse cursor. I can't transfer any files now. I dont want to have any problems reinstalling steam, and i have games on my second hard drive. Should I reformat both drives?
  13. ok. thanks. I'll probably re-partition the drive after moving things like Steam. Thanks. Plus, now i can get rid of mcafee.
