  1. Budget (including currency): n/a Country: UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: openwrt wifi routing and as a hub for a wifi star network topology. Id like a wifi router that can scale with me currently i only have 40mbs adsl internet but i will be upgrading soon to fibre. id also like it to have 2 sfp+ ports (one for wan one for lan) 1 rj45 (for my current speeds) and some mpcie for wifi cards. I'm ok having used parts. so I've found a few things here paired with this, an m.2 boot drive, some ram and 2 mpcie wifi modules with full bandwidth g/n/ac/ax. I'm wondering if this will work or if anyone has experience with this. after a lot of googling it seems not many people know this exists and with this being rather expensive I just want to make sure it will play nice. Thanks for any help
  2. not as far as im aware its as the os is booting it hangs. eg the windows splash screen is there but just has the spiny dots.
  3. So i have a 10gb pice nic but it makes my pc and nas hang on boot an take 10 times longer to boot then normal im not sure what im missing. This is the card in question https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IBM-Emulex-Dual-Port-10GbE-SFP-Card-PCIe-Server-Network-Card-Full-Height-/274395236520?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 I have a fealing its physically damaged as when it arrived the pcie bracket was bent and the heatsink wasnt fully setted. I am a bit of a newb to networking and server stuff so im probably missing something but i would have thought there would be some indication of what to do. Even after it fully loads in my switch shows its connected but nether truenas or windows say its up. Im using windows 10 latest update and truenas core also latest update Any help would be appreciated
  4. So im looking to make or buy a cheep multi-role server for minecraft, ark, and as a local file server. My budget is about £200-£300ish i know that is quite tight. Im not after anything super and i know uts probably gona be a refurbished unit of some kind. Im kinda new to it but im thinking Ubuntu and docker for my os thay seem perfect for this. Ive found this on ebay and it looks good but not sure what you think https://bit.ly/35dlS37 Any help appreciated Thanks in advance
  5. im thinking £100 for the system and then i can add drives later on
  6. as mutch as id like one, a 4 bay nas from amazon is around £400
  7. i also have an old pi (pi one or 2?) however i herd there kind of bad at this thing. i don't even think mine has gigabit lan
  8. I want to build a cheep nas of some kind. My rough plan was to buy a cheepo office pc thing (probably a refurbished unit) for around £100. And then load it up with hdds (possibly also refurbished with warranty) untill the case cant fit any more. The only kinda important things are im going to try and image my pc and my gfs laptop so i have a backup. But its mostly gona have old ps2 games and potentially some digitised vhs tapes. I also plan on using some old hdds i have knocking around as thay still work and i dont wana waste them. Thanks in advance EDIT: Forgot to add the budget..
  9. UPDATE: i think is the gpu memory? i lowered the resalution from 1080 to 720 for one of the games that keeped cusing this and it seem stable at the moment. im not sure how to test this so advice and other theroys to solve this would help greatly so I've asked something like this before. my pc will just randomly power cycle. Windows event viewer it says error 41. I suspected the psu or ram was at fault but my pc was stable for days running nice hash(gpu and CPU full high power) plus some light YouTube on top. I've also run memtest and that came back with all clear. I've updated all drivers and software I can think of and triple checked and tested the items I suspect at fault. I have a hunch its my wall power being funky I have a ups in-between and if I was to pull the plug of the ups when my pc is at full load it will power cycle. however its not like the lights flicker when ever it power cycles(as if it were a brownout or something). another thing is that it seems more unstable after a power cycle and is more likely to do it again especially if it happened in a game. but the games it power cycles in seem to have little connection and its been perfectly stable with other more intense games. system specs Windows 10 20h2 64bit CPU i7 4790k no oc 140mm corsair aio with push pull fans 32gb corsair 1600mhz ram (4x8gb) ASUS 970 strixs with manufacture oc Samsung 950 m.2 SSD (c drive) ASUS maximus VII hero (with latest bios) corsair cx750m 750watt psu apc ups pro900 2tb segate barracuda hdd (e drive and main steam library) 1tb rando hdd i pulled from an old laptop fromated and used for backups/ps2 games or things that wont benefit from the ssd asus 802.11 ac pcie wifi adapter (unused but still installed)
  10. Been seeing lots of adds for these or similar recently. I wonder if thay would be any good compared to my old 4790k.
  11. So the ram is 32gb at 1333mhz Ive been trying my hardest but i can't get any overclock to be stable im still trying Im honistly thinking of getting a ryzen 9 cpu and mobo combo of some sort. Or i might grab a haswell e cpu and mobo on the cheep
