  1. Green is designed as a storage / low power drive. Speed is not a priority...that's why WD has other drives in the lineup and not just for shits and giggles. Hence the term "WD Green", "Black", "Blue", etc..
  2. I lean towards Nvidia myself, but I don't understand people singling out the Radeon card when it comes to more power. According tomshardware, http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-r9-280x-r9-270x-r7-260x,3635-18.html , the 770 and the 280x are within 14 watt differential when it comes to full load benchmarks. So, maybe people should start talking realistically about what the numbers really are, and not make them up in their minds.
  3. you have never used a good quality ips monitor. if you believe tn is good enough for you , fine, but don't post your comments like they are facts when all the reputable people in the industry have reviews/articles telling YOU that TN is no where near the quality of IPS and similar tech.
  4. try both? whichever works best for you, stick with it?
  5. my room doesn't had decent air circulation, so on hot days it does get warm. That's why I bought a laptop -for browsing the net and things. Gaming or video editing stuff, I'll fire up the pc.
  6. make sure the school offers some sort of internship option during the course of your degree. this way you will have some experience...the same company might even hire you after you graduate. And make sure the university you'll be attending is accredited. http://main.abet.org/aps/Accreditedprogramsearch.aspx
  7. live usb is not the same as installing it on your pc. You run the entire OS off the USB.
  8. I have an Airport Extreme and it's a badass router. As far as no Airport utility for windows...that's false.
  9. I really don't understand the logic of people like you. If you actually took a few minutes out of your day, and priced each component in a MAC, you would find that the price differential between it and a regular PC is not that much higher. Plus, you get the added benefit of a more secure OS when it comes to random malware infecting your operating system. Great for people who click on every fancy looking "DANGER! DANGER!" animated gif they come across when surfing the web.
  10. Yeah, stick with the standard versions of the OS as Bill Gates intended. I wouldn't touch these "gaming super duper" versions with a 10 foot pole.
  11. not all boards have enable/disable option for pci slots. if you don't see any settings like that, they probably don't exist for the board. at this point, i would try another pci based peripheral and see if it gets detected...if it does, then your wireless card is borked.
  12. Good point. I would imagine that it would be a less of a headache to manage macs compared to windows with all the viruses/malware out there on Windows.
  13. make sure your PCI slots are enabled in the bios. If that doesn't work, I would rma / exchange it for something else. Rosewill..wtf is Rosewill?
  14. I would suggest using restore point and go back to before you think you got the adware/malware or whatever you have.
  15. for stuff like this, i would get a live usb of ubuntu and delete the files/folders that way.
  16. You need to make sure all your pci express power connectors are plugged in first.
  17. I'm trying to save a streaming video(not live) on my hard drive from a website that gives me the option to play it in either silverlight or embedded wmp player I've tried VLC, and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but if I start capturing the stream for a minute, hit the stop button and then check the captured file, it says "invalid" whenever I try to play it back. So, I didn't want to wait 3 hours (that's the length of the video) and then find out that VLC didn't capture anything. I'm looking for alternatives. Thanks..
  18. I think the price range of H440 is about as much as I would like to pay. NCIX.com has it for 119 which seems reasonable.
  19. I've had a P180 for a long time now and looking to upgrade because I want a case with cable management and sound deadening material. I love the looks of the Antec P180 so I'm looking for a similar looking (and same sized or smaller preferred) ATX case. The dimensions of the 180 are 21.3"(H) x 19.9"(D) x 8.1"(W). Price is kind of a factor. Thanks for any and all input, amigos.
  20. yeah, this thing is way too old to be under warranty anymore. Probably better to build a new budget amd system than throw more money at this old piece o' junk.
  21. no problem. I should mention that I've also reseated the CPU, it's a AMD 64 x2. I might be wrong, but don't these cpus have integrated memory controllers? You could still be right though...the impact might have jarred something inside the cpu that controls the memory. Only the cpu gods know.
  22. I'm diagnosing a problem for somebody. They dropped their HP M7330n (Asus A8AE-LE motherboard) tower horizontally and now it won't go past the HP logo bios screen. i unplugged everything, dvd, hd, expansion cards and all but one ram stick. The problem is still there. The funny thing is that when I remove all the ram, the motherboard beeps normally indicating no memory installed. As soon as I put even one stick of ram, the fast clicking noise comes back. The clicking noise is from the mobo speaker and it sounds the same as a grinding fan. It's not the hard drive or anything else because I've unplugged molex/sata cables from everything. I've also taken out all the expansion cards and left only one stick of ram. I also reseated the CPU. Help appreciated.
