  1. I've had my eye on the Asus PG348Q, since its announcement in the summer of 2015(?) and I just have some questions before I pull the trigger. I have been using my 24" 60hz 1080p LG monitor for at least 6 years now and I am content with playing games at this refresh rate and resolution but I am looking to upgrade. I do plan to keep the Asus monitor for the same if not a longer period of time if I do make the purchase so i'm trying to future-proof as much as possible. a TL:DR summary is at the end of the post. So my questions are: 1. Refresh Rate I know there are new posts about monitor refresh rates every other day. However after reading testimonies on countless articles, there are numerous comparisons between 60hz vs 120/144hz (two extremes). I already understand that the difference between 60 and 100hz is night and day. What i'm curious about is if 120hz or 144hz is a lot better than 100hz or do diminishing returns hit hard after 100hz? Would feel shitty to buy a $1500+ monitor only to find out there is a 120hz or 144hz variant the next year but if it doesn't make that much of a difference then I won't feel as shitty. 2. HDR Many of the articles that i've read use a lot of jargon and talk more about TVs than gaming monitors. After seeing Linus' video on this new Asus HDR monitor I want to know if HDR really makes that big of a difference and if I need it. A friend told me that IPS panels are already quite colour accurate and HDR would not be that beneficial, but he's probably talking out of his ass. The reason I am asking this is the same as the previous question. Would feel shitty as I plan to keep the monitor that I end up with at least 5+ years and I can wait another year for a better monitor. Lastly i'd like to mention I only play Overwatch regularly, and i'll dabble into games like Witcher (currently playing Horizon: Zero Dawn, its dope.) I am also open to other solutions or suggestions (other than the Acer x34). TL:DR - Is 120/144hz a lot better than 100hz? - HDR important? Worth waiting for? Thank you for your time.
  2. I have tried all the combinations between the Xonar center and all the available drop-down options in Skype.. Thanks for the help so far.. Also, I noticed you're located in Vancouver! 604 represent!
  3. Sorry, I was testing out the other options but yes, I did have mic selected. I have tested that the mic does in fact work, I tried it by making a call on my cellphone. And I don't know if this information will help but I previously had a USB mic plugged in and that would work via the sound card according to Skype.
  4. Yeah, I tried the multiple options available and I didn't see any green bars pop up. I don't even want to run the mic through my sound card, i'd prefer it if I could run it through my audio interface. But if worse comes to worse I might just have to run it through the sound card.. If that's even going to work..
  5. Yes, I have plugged it in the correct jack. I tried what you recommended and tested it with the Skype Audio Test and couldn't hear anything still. And yes, I have checked the Windows settings as well.
  6. Hi guys, I recently bought an audio interface, the TASCAM US-2x2, after a few weeks of use I noticed that a few problems were reoccurring and I believe most of them are interdependent. But I also have a few general questions. Problem 1: There is occasionally a "popping" sound when I play audio from YouTube/Facebook/Spotify/iTunes. After this popping sound occurs, it is usually followed by my second problem. Problem 2: Problem 1 doesn't always occur for this to happen. All forms of video and audio (YouTube/Facebook/Spotify/iTunes) stop playing. I'll be watching a video, I pause it for a couple minutes, come back to my computer and my videos won't play anymore. If I try to play music on Spotify, the browser will say it's playing but no sound comes out. The only solution that I have found so far is restarting the computer manually (reset button) because when I press restart on Windows, it stays in the "Shutting down" screen but doesn't actually shut down. Problem 3: My ModMic 4.0 doesn't seem to work or appear on Skype. I tested the mic on my phone and the mic definitely works. And yes, I checked if it was on mute. I am trying to use it via the audio interface but it doesn't seem to work when I am on Skype. Whether its plugged in via the audio interface, the sound card (Asus Xonar DG) that I don't use anymore, or the on-board audio (Asus Z87-A). As seen attached, other than the Microphone (US-2x2) option, there are no other options to select from. I was told by my sister, who is proficient with audio equipment that I should be seeing a "Line-In" option. Problem 4: I recently had a nearly-full system upgrade. One of which includes upgrading from Windows Vista on a Western Digital Blue to Windows 7 on an Intel 530 SSD with an additional 2TB WD Black. After this upgrade, I transferred all the music files on my ~8 year old WD Blue to my new 7200 RPM WD Black. However, instead of seeing faster playback speeds, iTunes takes several seconds to play a song when selected. I used to be able to spam the side buttons on my mouse to skip through tracks but now after skipping a few songs the program lags for a bit. Or even if I pause the song for some time and go back to play it, it takes a long time to start the song again. I would greatly appreciate any kind of help. I am not as tech/computer-savvy as many of you on the forums. In terms of computer-savvyness, if your grandma was a 0 and a middle-aged office lady was a 4, i'd say i'm a solid 7.5. So easy on the lingo please. And lastly I apologize for the long post. Please let me know if I can provide more information in order for you to help me. Thanks!
  7. Hey guys, I am thinking about getting into liquid cooling my PC, I am considered what you guys call a "hot-rodder". Meaning as much as I care about performance, I am much more enthusiastic about the looks of my PC. I recently came upon this liqueur, the Viniq Shimmer Liqueur, and thought that a liquid that has the same physical properties this liqueur has would look awesome in a water cooling loop. Problem is, I don't think liqueurs are recommended for water cooling loops (possible?) and I don't know if a substance like this exists for water cooling. I was wondering if anyone on these forums would know if this is possible. The plan so far is to purchase a Swiftech H220-x and replace the fluid with something like this. It will only be cooling my locked i5-4440. Here is a link to what I mean by the physical properties of the liqueur: (Skip to around 1:10 to see the liquid close up) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvds7dRkavM Thanks
  8. Is there a release date for the 980Ti yet? Hmm.. Never thought about getting a refurbed card, will have to look into that. Thanks!
  9. I rounded up. Yeah, I believe they're $570 on EVGA's site, but ~$650 on NCIX. Supply and demand  Aesthetics > Performance for me 'cause i'm vain like that. Since the 970 doesn't have the Titan cooler, I am leaning a bit towards the SLI 770's. I am just hoping they're "future proof" enough for what I use em for and for the price (~$330 each).
  10. I was thinking of doing that with a GTX 770 cause the 970 doesnt have the reference cooler but I think by the time I want/need to upgrade 770s will be non-existent... Or I can spend a little (almost double) more and get me a 980, which is overkill. But youre right about the VRAM. Might be a good investment.
  11. That's a good point. I would buy an SLI bridge and slap it on, even with one GPU. B)
  12. I currently have a GTX 550Ti and i'm looking for an upgrade. However, since I care about the aesthetics of my setup more than the performance, I wanted a GPU with the Titan reference cooler. It would be optimal if I could SLI and use Nvidia's new LED SLI bridge but only if it fits in my budget. <_< Keep in mind, even though I care about aesthetics more, performance is still a big factor. I'm hoping to play Witcher 3/Borderlands on ultra/high settings, I run two 1080p monitors and occasionally movies on my 1080p 43" TV. I don't overclock or anything like that! I am in no hurry for an upgrade but hoping Best Buy doesn't cut off the reference GTX 770s anytime soon. So far my possible options are (in my budget): - SINGLE GTX 980 (~$650) - TWO GTX 770's SLI (~$350 each) - how long do u think it'll be until they're off the shelves? - *crossing my fingers* for a reference (Titan) cooler release for the 970, just like the 770. Would be my first choice and would also SLI these, but worth hoping/waiting for? So far the obvious choice (to me) is the two 770's in SLI. But I was wondering if the performance of X2 SLI GTX 770s would be powerful/"future proof" enough to handle what I do for about 3~4 years (optimistic). I do not play games with crazy graphics (Battlefield, Crysis, etc.) maybe i'll try out Titanfall? I was hoping you guys would be able to give me some recommendations on other sick looking GPUs, I really dig the Titan cooler and was thinking of painting the silver parts white. Or if you guys know of any other Nvidia cards with the Titan cooler. Thanks!
