  1. It actually wasn't a bluescreen. It was a windows error shutdown. Didn't give any specifics on why just said "Windows has encountered an error and must shut down" or something similar to that.
  2. @ProKoN @Faceman Ok, update on the status. Last night before I was about to start my 8 hour stress test, I got a windows has encountered an error message and my PC rebooted. I don't know if this was caused by the CPU set at that frequency or just coincidence.
  3. Which stress test program should I be using. I've heard a few options now and I have no clue lol
  4. I built my new rig and am currently working on OCing the 4690k. I set the multiplier to 44 as I've heard 4.4GHz should be achievable on air cooling without too much issue. I ran 10 passes of Intelburntest at High settings and it passed the test. Should I continue with an 8 hour stress test with these temps or should I dial it back and hope for better temps? Also I set the cpu core voltage to 1.25 and it's showing at 1.26 in CPU-Z is that normal?
  5. Wow...I feel like a complete moron. I was sure I'd have to take it off auto before I was able to change the multiplier....Thanks!
  6. I recently built my new gaming computer centered around the MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Motherboard and the Intel i5 4690k CPU. I got it all together and everything runs fine, but I can not access the option to change my CPU multiplier. It is white like it should be able to be chosen, but it will not let me click it. Any idea why this would be happening? Here are a couple of screen shots of the bios if that will help. http://i57.tinypic.com/2qi5xk6.jpg http://i60.tinypic.com/14jyrsm.jpg
  7. I found some really good deals on windows and I'm trying to decide which version of 8 to get. Would it be worthwhile to go from windows 8.1 Pro to Enterprise for $5 US more? What are the main differences between them?
  8. Is the paste that comes on the 212 EVO good enough or will I notice a big difference changing it?
  9. I'm waiting on the last 2 shipments to arrive this coming Thursday (Feb 19th) to finish my new build. I ordered a CM Hyper 212 EVO for the cooler. I have an old tube of Arctic Silver 5 laying around (6ish years old).\ Should I just stick with the stock paste or use the AS5? Does this stuff lose potency over time?
  10. Anyone have any experience? I was looking at getting Gskill Ripjaws for $72 USD, but I saw the Kingston for $63, but there aren't really any reviews.
  11. Thanks for the info. It seems the g45 is the general consensus so that's the way I'm going to go.
  12. Ok, the bundle price on the board and cpu I was getting went off right before I ordered. SO now I'm trying to decide which of these 2 boards is the better value. They look pretty similar from what I can see, but I'm not 100% versed on everything. So I'm wondering which one is the better value? http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-gaz97xgaming5 currently $119.99 or http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-z97g45gamingcurrently $123.99
  13. Thumbs up for being from Indiana...or maybe that's thumbs down...
  14. Thanks for the info guys! Much appreciated. Think I'll stick with the 850 evo, as it's only like $9 more then the mx100 right now .
  15. I have a mass storage drive I will be reusing.
  16. On another forum I visit (gaming forum) people were talking about the e 850 evo and saying things like "Don't get TLC NAND SSD's (840 and 850 EVO) right now that have huge performance issues when some files aren't accessed regularly, better get MLC NAND SSD's like the Crucial M100 and Samsung 850 Pro." Is this true?
  17. Thanks for the info. I will not be watercooling the GPU
  18. I guess I should have said aio liquid cooler.
  19. So the gigabyte is worth the extra $25ish?
  20. What about the case? The plan is to add a closed loop cooler eventually.
  21. @Laputacake @Xaring @mosin40 How would something like this work? I forgot to mention I have a WD Black hard drive I'll be reusing. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($214.95 @ SuperBiiz) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($25.99 @ SuperBiiz) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($110.99 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($57.80 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($113.16 @ Amazon) Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card ($326.99 @ SuperBiiz) Case: Fractal Design Define R4 (Black Pearl) ATX Mid Tower Case ($74.99 @ NCIX US) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($66.99 @ SuperBiiz) Total: $991.86 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-02-07 04:24 EST-0500 I am open to using a different case, I thought about using the NZXT S340, but I wouldn't mind the optical drive bay (to reuse my old DVD-RW drive) and the lack of anti vibration mounts for the hard drive kind of worries me. So the case is a "up for debate" topic. I would like a quality case, but I am open to suggestions. Also would it be worth the extra money ($25) over my budget to go with this power supply? http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-220g20750xr
  22. I've been looking for a while and posting quite a bit recently about PC builds. I finally got the go ahead from the boss (my wife) to spend $1000 on a new unit. I'm looking to play as many games at as close to max as possible. I'm planning on getting the ASUS VG248QE from where I work as I'll get it for a few dollars cheaper than online since I get a discount, so I'd like to get as high of FPS as possible. I do not need a keyboard or mouse and don't include the monitor in the cost as it's going to come from somewhere else. If you can squeeze windows 8.1 in that'd be great, but I can always run Linux or something . I play mainly World of Warcraft, as well as skyrim, call of duty, BF4, Diablo 3 and such, but I would love to play some newer games, my pc just won't handle it. Also wouldn't mind room for SLI or Xfire in the future. 23. I'm looking to spend right around $200 for my Graphics Card, I've heard a couple recommendations of either the r9 280 or the gtx 960. Which of these two is the better option for gaming? Right now I'm at 1680x1050, but may end up upgrading to 1080p in the near future.
