  1. I'm not sure about 4K, but at 3440x1440 the 980SLi wins most of the time from what I have observed. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/218267-295x2-vs-gtx-980-sli/#entry3001051
  2. Why 3 ROG Swifts? Why not run something with better image quality considering, even with 3 980's in SLI, that you likely won't see much more than 60FPS if you're lucky in most games.
  3. The issues with the DP cable have been sorted, apparently a driver issue with AMD. Dropping the monitor to DP 1.1 mode resolves it as does changing the color depth to 8 bit from 10. On that note, I've run both the 295x2 and GTX 980 (SLi) through some rudimentary benchmarks. In my opinion and from what the benchmarks show me, (aside from Firestrike which was an outlier), the 980GTX's in SLi win hands down. As for the attachments, the .txt files can have their extensions changed to .hml and can be viewed with the Riva Tuner package. Essentially I found the GTX 980's to have a higher average framerate, lower frametimes, same temperatures. Gameplay in general felt smoother with the 980's, though I was certainly impressed with the 295x2 it just wasn't quite up to the same level as the 980's. All benches were done at 3440x1440, keeping the same in-game graphics settings between games. BF4 used the Ultra preset at 3440x1440 DX11. Unigine was set to a custom res of 3440x1440, full screen, 8x AA. 4. EVGA for the customer service and support.
  5. Good to see others pushing the envelope. It can only help to progress the industry in my opinion.
  6. I'd like to get started on my personal review between the 295x2 and GTX 980's in two way SLi, but either the 295x2 or this mini-DP to DP cable, or perhaps the monitor itself is causing issues. Seems that when the 34UM95 monitor comes out of sleep I get horizontal lines across the screen as well as black flashes every few seconds. If I reboot the machine it goes away and all is normal. I didn't have this issue with a 780ti on the normal display port cable that came with the monitor. Haven't unboxed the 980's yet as I wanted to run a few benches on the 295x2. I'm running the Catalyst Beta drivers from AMD's site, 14.7 RC3 I beleive, are there any newer drivers available? I'm also going to return this cable and get an Accell B143B-007J and see if that is the issue.
  7. ISn't the new compression algorithm on the GTX 980 supposed to eliminate any memory bandwidth issues and is the reason Nvidia chose a 256 bit memory bus? Judging from the benchmarks linked above some titles do indeed point to what you are saying as being accurate, though there are a few titles where the 980 pulls ahead, (titles that seem to favor Nvidia). I wonder if more mature drivers will help alleviate the discrepency?
  8. Outstanding! Thanks to everyone who responded as well! I have a 295x2 at home and just picked up a pair of the 980GTX's, I guess I will put them head to head and see if this article is somewhat accurate. The only caveat with going to Nvidia would be the lack of dissimilar resolution support in NV Surround. Does anyone know of a workaround to push 2x27"+1 34" 3440x1440 on Nvidia?
  9. Does anyone have a link for benchmarks comparing these two, it seems every review I've come across either compares a single GTX 980 vs. a 295x2 or the review features 2 GTX 980's in SLi vs. a R9 290x. WTF? A simple, head to head, apples for apples 4K review of the 980's in SLi vs the 295x2 would be fantasitic. In before 2 x 290x = 295x2, because no.
  10. Reference for cards close together in SLi, ACX for single card in a properly configured case.

So it is quite possible, sweet!
  12. The difference between the LG and the AOC is that the AOC has 1 more USB 3.0 port (LG only has 1, wtf?). Also, the LG has a hardware LUT whereas the AOC does not. I'm curious as to whether or not the AOC and Dell Ultrawides will have some of the backlight bleed issues the LG has/had as I believe they all share the same panel. I know mine had really bad backlight bleed around the bottom corners until I took a plastic library card and popped the bezel out along the bottom. I wasn't too happy having to do this to a $1000 monitor, but the 21:9 format on a screen at least 34"+ and 1440P minimum is amazing in my opnion. I may return this and get the curved version when it comes out though. I'm hoping the curved surface will combat the IPS glow that can be seen when looking to the corners. I plan on potentially adding two 27" monitors to the sides, mostly for productivity purposes, but may add in eyefinity for the rare chance I have some free time to play a game.

Perhaps I should just take this 34" back and start all over. I really do like this monitor, though a 27" IPS with 120Hz+ and a warranty would be nice...

Nvidia surround has to have each monitor running at the same resolution? If that is the case I was not aware of this. Does anyone have experiences with eyefinity and dissimilar resolutions they can share? I would dislike being pideonholed to a certain manufacturer unless it's really worth it.

    8560x1440

Greetings, I'm currently looking to purchase some monitors and am also in the midst of updating my gaming rig. I recently purchased a 34UM95 21:9 monitor and am possibly looking to add two 27" monitors for the sides. Does anyone know which monitors may best match up to the 34" center monitor, height wise? I realize that 12+ MP is a bit much to drive with current GPU solutions, but I plan to have these monitors long enough to go through a few GPU upgrade cycles. I would like to have the extra space for productivity in the meantime. Any help is appreciated.
