Hey guys, I recently upgraded my pc to skylake, but i did so by also switching to a MATX case.... i had a 290x with a big fat rad attached to it and my cpu cooler didnt leave it enough space so I decided il leave it in the PC i salvaged it from and probably give it to my bro or sell the old system.... So, I'm wondering if I should upgrade my PC now to something like a 970... or should I grab an old 570 and just hold out til the pascal launch.... idk if I will be able to resist the upgrade bug... but damn it i think i might try !

Wrong mobo screws (one more question)
ChrisxParkinson replied to ChrisxParkinson's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Ya fuck it I'm not removing it til it's obsolete ! Thanks pal -
So I was speaking with one of the mods yesterday and he mentioned since I got some.screws stuck in the mobo standoffs while mounting them motherboard ide have to do.some.risky shit to get them off... Now one of the right ones was accidentally installed and the rest provide some degree of structural integrity.. I was considering just leaving the wrong ones in as I don't think the motherboard is lose in anyway ! Is this dumb ? Let me know
-
Ah darn... Yea honestly the one that is correct plus the three others sorta holdimg it in has the mobo in place so if there's a risk of damage I might just say fuck it... I can't believe how impatient I was that I just used the wrong screw cuz I couldn't find the right ones ! I suppose this is a good lesson in understanding how getting pissed off and rushing through stuff isn't as efficient as calmly considering each action ! Thanks for your help buddy

I used the wrong screws on 3/4 of the holes to connect mobo to case stand offs... Noticed now they looked so similar but they aren't doing a very good job holding shit in place... Shouldn't really attempt anything else while I'm tired lol I've been at this for 3 hours and almost got the hyper 212 in and RAM and the mobo in case and now I'm done for the day... It feels like these screws are stuck... I'm worried about applying too much pressure cuz I don't wanna break anything... So if anyone knows how I would go about getting these screws that are seemingly stuck in the standoffs that would be awesome :).... I shall start fresh tomorrow ! But honestly if I fucked my mobo by mounting it with the wrong screws I'm just gonna pay someone to do this cuz clearly I have forgotten since I did my last build 3 years ago... Sigh... Perhaps I am just discouraged because I'm tired...

Hey guys, I'm looking to finally get rid of my fx 8320 that i got back in 2012... Intel has a lot of parts that are still relevant and im looking to make an investment in an i7 so i have the additional hyper threaded cores so I hopefully wont have to upgrade in the next 5ish years (on the cpu side of things). I am primarily using this for gaming but I also wanted to look into getting a rig that could act as a hackintosh as I'm considering getting a macbook for school because I have had problems with some of the laptops I have purchased in the last few years. I know the 4790k is hackintosh compatible and is at a more attractive price point than the skylake chips... ^TLDR which i7 is the best for gaming (longevity of the chip is important for me) and also is skylake hackintosh compatible yet/ will it be by fall (when i buy my macbook) Thanks

Hey guys, I've been a long time windows user and have recently dual booted windows and ubuntu... I really like the way ubuntu looks and feels (the way linux directories work makes more sense to me than windows... I also really like unity!) and I find myself spending most of my time on ubuntu as it has most of what I need minus onenote and a few of my games. However, with Linus' recent videos showing off the potential for VM's for gaming using things like UNRAID... I was wondering what kind of performance I can expect for gaming running a windows VM through ubuntu. Really, If i could run my games through that and not notice too much of a performance drop, it would save me the hassle of going to windows when I want to play a game that is unsupported on ubuntu. So my question is essentially what VM would I use and what will the experience be like compared to running on true windows platform.

they all said the same thing about NAFTA... were gonna lose our "average joe jobs" regardless of if we want to be smart about creating higher level ones (through TPP and other forms)... to not sign on to the TPP would in my opinion be covering our ears and saying "la la la la la la !! globalization isn't a thing I cant hear you la la la la la la" -

yea man, I know I don't need the upgrade... also in university so I'm really not trying to spend $$.. but at the same time I do wanna get my star wars on so if any black friday deals are appealing enough of black friday or any other major sale I might yolo -
Hey guys, this is more of a discussion rather than a question; im interested to see if any of my fellow Canadians are holding off on any major PC upgrades until the dollar rebounds.... I was watching pauls hardware's monthly builds the other day and the skylake processor (i5 6600k) that I was considering upgrading to was a full 100 dollars cheaper in the united states! I mostly just play DOTA 2, and I have a decent graphics card (290x) but I threw it in an older system equipped with a fx 8350 as I didn't have the money to build a brand new computer at the time (it was youthful ignorance that made me decide i needed to ball out that hard on a gpu when i had a cpu that couldn't keep up.... In hindsight I'm well aware it was a stupid decision lol). So, I do want to upgrade to intel's new platform so I can get the full performance of my GPU in newer/more demanding FPS games, but im not willing to spend 350 bucks on an i5 cpu..... So ya, I was wondering if any of you guys felt the same way? or is the need to upgrade your PC something that you are willing to take a bit of a financial hit on?
