  1. Hello helpful people, I was wondering I could get some advice please. My father runs a small kitchen design business and has asked me to help him upgrade his PC as final renders using his kitchen design software (ArtiCad) take over 10 minutes each time (not even best settings). He doesnt have a huge budget (under £400). According to their website ArtiCad say that their software is mostly CPU depndant which made me think getting an older workstation desktop refurbished with Dual Xeons (such as the PC linked below) would be a good idea as I imagine they can churn through the render work really well. The aim is to basically make those render times as short as possible with a sub £400 build. Any recommendations or advice? TIA, Here is an example of the kind of thing Im looking at: LINK Basic specs: Intel Xeon X5660 X2 2.80GHz with Factory HP Water cooling system 32GB Ram Gtx460 Graphics Card 500GB HDD Thanks guys! Joe
  2. Just watched the latest Wan show and Linus's quote was so good I has to mock up a tshirt design. Whaddya think guys? Would you like one? (quote is at 50:35 in video)
  3. 2 way and cheers for the offers guys. It looks like we may be in luck as someone has got in touch. I'll leave the post up just in case!
  4. Hey guys, Basically I'm building my friends PC tonight for him (he lives in London) and he has everything except an SLI bridge. I'm only here for the night and nowhere sells them. Is there anybody that can help a brother out and donate a spare bridge?? We would appreciate it so so so much! We will come to wherever you are in terms of collecting and will of course reimburse you! Thanks in advance from a pair of hopeful Londoners!
  5. For prices on the 295x2 to drop, or for the new cards specifically?
  6. Thanks, great reply I will advise my friend based on your information. His PSU is a standard Corsair one (if I remember correctly) so not the most fantastic thing out there.
  7. To be quite honest I can actually see TV channels paying Linus for the use and distribution of some of his (and the LTT teams!) episodes, such as with the second hand component build off thing. Would make great TV in my opinion on some channels. I could also see him being invited as a tech host on some techy TV programs (Canadian program equivalents of Gadget Show here in the UK).
  8. 295X2 is amazing value and performs better in lots of games at higher resolution. Titan X is awful value (for gaming) but performs amazingly across the board with better support due to single card set up. Two very different cards in my opinion. There is no real Titan X competitor from AMD and 980 watercooled/OC (maybe even SLI) is a better comparison for 295X2.
  9. You reckon a decent 750w PSU can handle it's power req? running an i5 and no other greedy components.
  10. Yeah thats what I was thinking. Cheers for the input
  11. Yeah, I think thats the reason the 295x2 is at such a good price right now. Best time to buy a graphics card is shortly before the manufacturer decides its "obselete" haha Thats what I was thinking. Thanks for providing an alternative viewpoint though Thats what I was hoping for - people arguing the opposite of what I believe so both sides of the argument can be made clear. (y)
  12. Theres always that dilemma though. For example he currently has a 770 - which at the time of purchase he bought it thinking "in a year or two I can purchase a second one and be back on top", but in reality he (and I think most people) is instead considering an entirely new card. And I have a feeling that the 295x2 at £450 will still perform well against 980 SLI which would be considerably more expensive right?
  13. Same as above ^ Forget future upgrading, which is better now?
  14. He will be purchasing it in a month anyway due to exams and other distracting IRL stuff!) - Thanks for the input But does anybody ACTUALLY purchase a second card further down the line, or do they just upgrade to a new card again. Im talking about performance NOW. He wouldnt purchase a second 980 further down the line, he would just upgrade from the 295x2 to whatever the new card (best performance per $$$) is at the time. Regardless of upgradibility, which is better for performance:$$$ atm, the 980 or the 295x2?
