  1. just an idea! if its for water cooling couldn't you design the whole case so it is the radiator :/ so the whole case has water flowing through it and is made from acrylic :) and brushed metal

That is my idea :D Except the case will be almost all aluminium with a steel frame and copper tubing running behind the scenes along the radiators built into the case dissipating heat through the copper pipe. Ultimately the idea is that you will be able to put your system in, connect your tubing up to quick disconnect fitings and you will be away. The only thing you will need is your system, waterblocks, a little tubing and ta da. The pump and resivour will be in the top soundproof compartment.

  2. Hmmm I understand that it's early in design, however I don't see myself wishing to buy it yet.

Now it might just be me, but I enjoy being able to pick up a case. And a heavy, water cooling case with fins on the side screams "I'm gonna cut ya!" all day. Also seems a bit wide.

However keep going, to each their own and I think it has potential. Even if it is the potential to be a clothes tearing, hand slicing machine.

The whole heavy thing is a good point but don't worry the fins will be rounded :D

  3. Thanks! I haven't decided which PCIe riser cable to use yet, since there is a tradeoff between price and reliability. Once I get the second prototype, I'll test various risers to see which ones are best.

Hey, I really appreciate the support. To source models of components, check out the following websites:

    https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/

    https://grabcad.com/

    http://scc.jezmckean.com/links

When I started the project, I also had no idea which manufacturer to go with, so I just did a web search and emailed/called anyone that sounds like they could do something like my project. I ended up contacting at least 200 manufacturers. Here are some tips:

    1) For a small run production, you'll want to go with a manufacturer that does metal stamping. Don't try to do any form of metal casting; way too expensive. Laser cutting places might also work, but they're still more expensive than metal stamping.

    2) Watch videos and read up on how manufacturers do metal stamping and bending. Think about how they would manufacture your case, and if what you're designing can be produced.

    3) Read up on how to make proper dimensioned engineering drawings (like a 3-view diagram) as well as a Bill of Materials.

Hope that all this is helpful! Don't hesitate to contact me with further questions.

Thanks man, that was really helpful!

  4. Really awesome case. Those renders look really professional, is there somewhere I can source models of components for my case design project? Also what software did you use to render/model. Sorry for all the annoying questions but how did you go about finding a manufacturer because I am stabbing in the dark on my case design project. Once again, love the project, good luck!

  5. I am currently working on a case concept that incorporates radiators into a case body, with fins all over the back side panel and base and loads of copper tubing hidden within the case. Also a seperate top compartment noise proofed to house the pump and resivoir. The case could just wave a few pipes sticking out of the body to connect the system loop to. I would go with an industrial clean design of just pure mabey brushed or powder coated aluminium with a glass side panel and copper tubing. The benefits of this case would be large noise reduction from isolating pump noise and it could probably be passively cooled but I would like to incorporate some Noctua redux 12db fans just to give the internals and fins some airflow. The cooling would be badass. The aesthetic of a case with fins all over would be badass ECT... I will work on 3d modelling and rendering my idea over the week to clarify my ideas. Would appreciate any input on this and apologies for any grammatical errors in this post, or lack of clarity, its 3 in the morning and im on my phone. :)

  6. This is my first build log so go easy on me :)

This is a media PC that I am building for my dad that will be sitting underneath the TV in a small shelf.

The space and rear exhaust ventilation of the shelf is very limited so I will need the PC to be cooled effectively but because its a media PC it will also need to be quiet.

  7. If you aren't too constrained you should definitely incorporate the pipes radiators and resivoir of a watercooling loop into your case with fittings for the rest of the pipes. One that would be badass, two that would save you at least £100+ and three the body of the case could aid in cooling decreasing the amount of/rpm of fans, decreasing noise. Also you wouldnt have to worry nearly as much about metal mixing in your loop :D. Just think about it......

  8. Here are all of my designs now finally printed out:

#1: Mounted the wrong way around https://www.myminifactory.com/object/8487

#2: ok (just printed to small) https://www.myminifactory.com/object/8585

#3: waaaaay to small - someone must´ve printed it in inches (it was 180mm tall and the arm reached nearly that far out too!) https://www.myminifactory.com/object/8410

Somehow none of my rendered pictures are shown...

Man that really sucks, The one they mounted backwards is ridiculous, I was scrolling through the entries and thought, hmmm I recognise that design, but something looks wrong. I understand that MMF had to get through a lot of designs but really, some of these problems are just dumb and greatly misrepresent the product.
