  1. Oh, it seems that you are correct. the top two yellow slots are 16x but the bottom slot is only 4x, so im forced to put them next to each other with this mobo then? so i guess i still have to use a blower style on top of a open air style huh?
  2. yea i like the node 804...I would pick it if I didn't have to have an optical drive bay for my NZXT HUE.... But i don't like how the case IO is on a different side from the window...that means if its against a wall i have to choose between a window and the IO thats kinda sad =[ Aside from the 350D, which is way too big for me, it doesn't seem like there's an mATX case with an optical drive bay AND 5 PCI slots...which is kinda of sad because the whole point of mATX is to have the extra PCI slots for extra cards but in mose mATX cases you can't use them because of temperature problems so most people only end up putting 1 GPU in there, which is just so silly because then you might as well go to a mITX and save yourself money for the exact same performance. It doesn't look like any case manafacturers have picked up on this though. The only way to maintain acceptable temps in most mATX cases is to have the top card as a blower style instead of open air, but the 970 blower-style cards are quite bad it makes no sense Im stuck lol. I would love if corsair could put an optical drive in their carbide 240 like they did with the 540, i understand they removed it to make space for the SSD, but they could have made it work! arghhh
  3. Greetings friends, My current build is http://pcpartpicker.com/b/TVBPxr I orginally built for for future SLI expansion, but because of my case adding another card into the case will take up all 4 PCI express slots of my case and leave both cards starved for air. As such I am looking for another mATX case that houses 5 PCI slots (the middle one will be left empty for the cards to breathe) and that also gives airflow to the bottom card so it can breathe as well. It being stylish is a plus id like it to have a window Id also like it to have 1 5.25" Drive bay so it can fit my NZXT Hue. Unfortunately im having trouble finding cases that fit these specifications, can anyone help? thanks -jokudolo
  4. @Si3Ra7 I saw this video but it was for a different gtx model as well as a different brand so i didnt think it would be at all similar to what i needed to do.
  5. I just got finished building my first pc, it has an MSI GTX 970 The theme of this card is red/black, I want to make it black yellow: pictures here: http://pcpartpicker.com/b/TVBPxr This is my first time building a pc let alone painting a shroud and this is still a fairly new card so i dont know where to start. Spray paint? What kind of paint? Do I have to sand it? How do i sand it? Will painting the shroud affect the temps of the GPU? In short I want some sort of guide or help on how to do this. I dont even know how to take the shroud off. thanks in advance -jokudolo
  6. Great thanks, how can i Tell if its plexi or arylic glass?
  7. Hello all, So I created a bootable usb for win 8.1 and installed it. Already two problems upon installing: 1. It made a system reserved partition on my HDD even though I chose my SSD as the installation destination. Will this slow down my boot times? How do i make it put that partition on my SSD with the rest of windows? 2. When I went into the BIOS and tried to activate Fast boot it gave me an error of 'please select the correct boot drive' or something like that. After reading about it on the internet it seemed like I had installed windows 8.1 in the normal mode instead of the newer UEFI mode. So, I plugged my USB drive back in, selected (UEFI: blah blah) as the first boot order and reinstalled windows on the SSD drive again, making sure to delete all partitions from the previous installation so that it just read as 'Drive 1 unallocated space'. However the system reserved partition on the HDD i left alone as I was not sure if deleting it would make something bad happen, or if I did delete it whether it would create the system reserved partition on my SSD like i want or on my HDD again like before. Windows installed fine, and this time going into the BIOS fast boot works! Although I was disappointed to see it didn't really decrease my boot time by that much, only by 1-2s on average, but thats okay i haven't tried ultra fast yet, as i still want to be able to get into the BIOS and i don't have internet on the system to download the windows boot to UEFI application But then I did some more reading and I began to worry about something else It seems that the USB bootable drive needs to be formatted into FAT32 in order to do a UEFI installation. But my drive was in NTFS format. However all the normal signs that windows has been installed in UEFI format is there (ASrock logo upon booting instead of windows logo, fast boot works, SSD marked as GPT drive, etc.) So again: Have I installed windows UEFI mode wrong? It works fine now but will it give me errors in the future? Is there anyway to have the system reserved partition on the SSD where windows is instead of the HDD? Does it even matter? Another thing I noticed is that since I reinstalled windows in the UEFI mode the CSM folder/menu in the BIOS is gone, I can't find it anywhere, is this normal? 8. Hello all! So i just finished putting my case together with the exception of the GPU and a 5.25" LED controller which are coming in the mail. CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($247.98 @ DirectCanada) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($26.79 @ DirectCanada) Motherboard: ASRock Z97M OC Formula Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($150.50 @ Vuugo) Memory: Kingston Fury Black Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($91.86 @ DirectCanada) Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($139.79 @ DirectCanada) Storage: Seagate 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Hybrid Internal Hard Drive ($78.79 @ DirectCanada) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card ($409.99 @ Memory Express) Case: Xigmatek Aquila MicroATX Mini Tower Case ($79.99 @ NCIX) Power Supply: Corsair RM 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($109.99 @ NCIX) Monitor: Asus MX239H 23.0" Monitor ($247.95 @ Vuugo) Case Fan: BitFenix Spectre Pro 148.7 CFM 200mm Fan ($16.99 @ Memory Express) Other: NZXT Hue 3 RGB Color Changing LED Controller ($39.99) Total: $1640.61 http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/y393WZ A couple of things are bothering me: 1. This case is awesome, the PSU was a bit of a squeeze, (had to return the RM750 for a 650 to fit it in) but considering the GPU im putting in is an axial type GPU not a reference blower, the fan will be directly facing the window. I've read that MSI cards are notorious for putting a lot of heat into a case so im wonderinf if the fact that its facing a window increase the GPU temperatures by a lot to the point of throttling because I don't want that. 2. Is there any point to having the spectre pro 200mm fan in? the case comes with 1 200m fan as an intake already on the outside so i thought putting another fan in the same place on the inside would pull more air into the case but I read somewhere that stacking fans isnt really that good? 3. If It turns out that having the window heats up the GPU too much how would i go about drilling holes into the window so its not so restrictive? Is it even possible without cracking the glass? Cheers
  9. So 5ms is fine, that means I can choose IPS? are there IPS monitors that have higher than 60 fps?
  10. Im super confused! IPS? TN? 60hz 120hz? 1080p? 1200p? 1440p? whhhaaaattttttttt isssss thisssssss stuffffff! Ok i know what is it but I don't know what is 'more important less important what I should focus on etc. Then I remembered this forum could help me out. This monitor will be used for gaming, mainly fast twitch FPS like bf4 on ultra actually that is what I build the rig for: CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($229.89 @ DirectCanada) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($32.21 @ DirectCanada) Motherboard: ASRock Z97M OC Formula Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($150.50 @ Vuugo) Memory: Kingston Fury Black Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($89.99 @ Canada Computers) Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($139.79 @ DirectCanada) Storage: Seagate 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Hybrid Internal Hard Drive ($79.79 @ DirectCanada) Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB Tri-X Video Card ($419.99 @ NCIX) Case: Xigmatek Aquila MicroATX Mini Tower Case ($79.99 @ NCIX) Power Supply: Corsair RM 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($129.98 @ Newegg Canada) Total: $1352.13 Please look at my build, tell me a good monitor that will be good for my GPU, (not overstress it but not make life easy for it either) and please tell me whether I will be able to SEE the difference between a 5ms response time and a 2ms response time! Or which would I notice more! 1080p vs 1200p? or TN vs IPS? 60hz vs 120hz? Ive been gaming with less than 60fps all my life so would i notice 120fps? could my card even go up that high? 23" vs 25" vs 27"? WHATS THE BEST SOLUTION!? Thanks -jokudolo
  11. Ok thanks for your input, i'm going to change to sapphires Tri-X edition, its a bit more expensive but i don't mind paying for stability, thank you!
  12. @Jerakl actually i was more referring to the GB version of their R9 290, the reviews I read all mentioned that it is quite difficult to RMA because they have bad customer service @Dude, Im still a college student so I will be moving this rig around a lot as i move rooms and homes, cant guarantee there will be data ports in all of them, heck my current room doesnt have 1, hence the wifi card These reviews on newegg even as recent as the 8th of september are still bad though.. i mean im not sure if newegg is the most reputable place for reviews but yeh this is where I was reading from, heck the top most ciritcal review was posted on the 22nd of august! Yea it seems they fixed the cooling issues, but more people are complaining about crashing problems now
  13. Hello all, So im building a pc for gaming mainly bf4 ultra detail 60 fps 1080p. I was about to start buying parts as its almost finalized but i decided to read some reviews on my GPU and there were ALOT of bad reviews for it. It seems liek gigabyte had some issues when they first released their R9 290 card but i have it in my build! http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/RCTYf7 CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($249.79 @ DirectCanada) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($31.92 @ DirectCanada) Motherboard: MSI Z97M Gaming Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($159.98 @ Newegg Canada) Memory: G.Skill Trident X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory ($89.99 @ Memory Express) Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($134.79 @ DirectCanada) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($57.99 @ Canada Computers) Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 4GB WINDFORCE Video Card ($424.98 @ Newegg Canada) Case: Corsair 350D MicroATX Mid Tower Case ($89.99 @ Canada Computers) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($74.99 @ NCIX) Monitor: Asus VH238H 23.0" Monitor ($159.99 @ NCIX) Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WDN4800 802.11a/b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter ($36.99 @ NCIX) Total: $1511.40 Does any1 know if these issues have been resolved and I can run this card without any fear of overheating and/or crashing? This build is microatx so without a lot of space heating is an issue for me! If these issues are still there then what other R9 290 cards are out there that will work better for me? -jokudolo
