  1. Good to know about the App. $10 one time is totally okay with me. I just didn't want monthly subs. I love slickdeals. I'll keep an eye on the Dell. So you're saying a regular server + blue iris software is better than the hikvision stuff? in your opinion, that is. I would use the doorbell camera separately from the security. I wouldn't worry about tying it in together, since all the reviews tell me it works fine anyway. I mainly want that one to be lazy, to be honest. I was thinking about $500-$600 budget. it's flexible, but thought maybe i could find a system a bit cheaper overall.
  2. I will register for that one and take a look. The only one I found a price on so far wanted nearly 600 for the E2/8P. Which is quite a bit more than I'm willing to spend for a 4 camera set up. Thanks for the information!
  3. @JokerProduction I am looking at Hikvision website, but the only way to buy them is from the distributors. Which look to be all Enterprise style distributors. Where did you get yours from? I ask because I cannot see prices without having to register, and registering for 100 websites just to price check each one is a bit tedious for a system...
  4. I would like to record at least a few days worth, along with live view/notifications @Scheer, sadly, I do not have an old pc laying around. The only parts I have are fried from a power surge. I am tech savvy, for the most part, so I don't think setting up software will be an issue. Is this a monthly sub or a 1 time fee? I guess I could just google it... After hearing several different opinions now, I'm looking into Hikivision, Amcrest, or Dahua cameras. A Nest or Ring doorbell(undecided if I actually want this completely yet), and some sort of NVR?( is the NVR the recording station? I assume? I may not be understanding that right)
  5. Hey all, I'm not sure if this is the right area to be posting this, and if not, just give me a heads up, I'll happily move it. I am looking for recommendations on home surveillance systems. I'd like to know of good price/performance systems. I want to cover the main areas of my 1500 sqft house. Garage, outside front, outside back, living room/hallway. I should think a 4 channel would be a enough, but if an 8 or 16 channel is a better deal, throw it my way. I just don't know what's reliable and what's not. Or what's overkill. Oh, and notifications to my phone is a must. Thanks in advance!
  6. Good call. Memory was not seated 100%. Checked it as soon as I got home and fixed it. Thanks for the help!
  7. it's the Corsair CX750M I believe is the model. 750 is probably even overkill for this setup honestly. I just thought maybe the PSU might not be putting out enough. I reseated the 20pin motherboard and 8pin cpu connectors and still nothing.
  8. Okay, so just installed the followingAsus Strix Z-270e MotherboardIntel Core i5-7600kDDR4 16gb (slots 2/4)gtx 1070 Corsair 750W PSUHere's the story - I was using this hardware earlier tonight. I replaced this hardware with a new Motherboard and a new i7 8600k. This hardware was reinstalled into my roomates chassis. The only thing that changed between my rig and his was the CPU cooler and the RAM. I used corsair, he's using ripjaws.LED indicators are as follows:PWR_LED = redBOOT_LED = offVGA_LED = offDRAM_LED = orangeCPU_LED = offI have unplugged the 1070 and removed it from the case completely in case there was a power issue. This did not resolve the problem. Any help would be very much appreciated.
  9. It's not about the speed, it's about learning to OC with hands on experience. Also, there's not many cars that my car is faster than. I'm willing to bet your car isn't faster than one either, though. However, I was just using an anology. Those are more expensive than the 3570k though...
  10. Because a 2400 can't be overclocked. Sure, I can read about it all day, but it's much better to learn by doing something than by just reading others doing it. That's like asking a guy who's driving a lambo if it's nice, then telling everyone that you know it's nice, even though you have 0 experience in it. It would be much more fun to actually do it yourself, not to mention, you'd have the experience. That's why. It's not a waste of money for that reason alone.
  11. I would go 2500k if I could find one.
  12. I was going to grab a new CPU and motherbaord If you said AMD was worth it. because a new mobo+AMD processor adds up to around 250-300 dollars. I'm not getting a new cooler though. My cooler has brackets for AMD and Intel both already. Basically, since you said AMD is worse than Intel when gaming is concerned, the only other thing I want to do now is fiddle with OCing. With a 2400 I can't do that, so I'll choose a 3570k, keep my same mobo, keep my same cooler, and just switch out the processor so I can begin to learn new things.
  13. I have the 2133Mhz only becuause Newegg had them on sale for $60 per 8GB (2x4GB) back in Feb. As for the GTX 660s, they were also on sale for 150 ea when I got them. I'm not worred about VRAM, I only run 2 24" Monitors, and even at 1080p it's fine, because I only use 1 of the monitors for Gaming and the other 1 I use for web and such. 2GB is probably even Overkill for just that. I have 2 660s just for the slight extra performance to decrease the lag in certain instances. I'm not looking for the Highest end build there is, I'm too poor for that. I just have a bonus coming up where I get to throw some extra money in. $600 is too much money though. I'd be more interested in a 690/780 if I had that much money. As for as the choosing CPU's go though, I suppose that answered my question. I still want to fiddle around with OCing though, So I'm still going to buy a new processor just for that, but I'll go with the 3570k So I can save money and keep my current mobo. Thanks. Edit: also, my 2133 is C9 as well. So really it's adds about .01% performance that was totally woth it!!!! I have no quirrel with either Intel or AMD. I see people argue about which one is better overall all the time. Honestly though, I've only ever used Intel, so I can't actually testify against AMD at all. That's why I asked the question.
  14. Okay, at the end of the month I'm definitely grabbing a new Processor for my PC. Right now I only have an i5-2400, which is quite nice, but I'd like to be able to fiddle around with OCing, so I've decided to upgrade. This PC is going to have 2 GTX 660s in SLI, 16GB 2133Mhz DDR3 G-Skill Sniper Series RAM. However, my biggest issue is, do you think I should go with the 4570k for the PCI-e 3.0 capabilities, or should I go with something like an 8350 or A10-6800k from AMD since it's cheaper. Is the PCI-e 3.0 actually worth it?
  15. Thoughts on SanDisk as an SSD basically for just the OS and maybe 1 or 2 games that I play the most. I'm only looking at getting a 64GB version so nothing outragous but SanDisk seems to have the cheapest around, but I don't want to get it if it ends up being complete crap, you know.
