  1. Scenario question: If the card can only effectively use 4GB, but they give it 8GB, and the game tries to use 8GB, will the card use it effectively? Or will it flounder? Also, do you have any links or directions to look for a good explanation about "effective" use of VRAM in gfx cards? I understand addressable limits and such, but not why a card couldn't use more RAM. Unless it is simply that the card only has enough processing power to use X amount.
  2. All of the more recent cards have eventually released a card with double VRAM. I am under no delusion it will come out soon, but was just curious when everyone thought larger VRAm cards will start being released. With the current consoles having "8GB" of VRAM, and game devs starting to use more vram and ram in general, it may actually be useful for more than edge cases.
  3. This exact reason. Talk hardware specs and controller preference all day. But I can still play old DOS games. You can't play PS1 games on the PS4, or NES games on the Wii.
  4. So, I searched the forums and couldn't really find anything. I have 2x 16 bay external jbod enclosures. So I bought an Adaptec raid card that allows 128 disks. What I didn't realize was that it only allows 24 volumes. This means I can only have 24 raid volumes or non-raided disks. So it doesn't work very well as a jbod card. I did some further research and found that I need a card that supports jbod pass-thru. I found of a lot of recommendations on other forums, but they were all many years old. Does anyone know of a raid card that uses SFF-8088 or 8087 mini-sas connections, and supports more than 32 disks? It needs to have at least 2 ports on it, internal or external doesn’t matter. Really I am just looking for recommendations on an easy to use brand and or model. Thanks in advance.
  5. I am looking to update my certs and get a bunch of new ones. I currently have old versions of A+, Net+, Security+, ITIL, MCP (Win XP), CCENT. I have looked around on the web for a while, and it's hard to get straight answers about a lot of the course websites. I am looking for simply good videos for the easier courses, but I want labs for any of the courses that require much more hands on knowledge. I would do some bootcamps, but none are offered in my area, and I can't take the time off work to go to the nearest major city. I have tried to take the CCNA test a couple times, and I always get tripped up on the performance demonstration questions; since I can study a book, and watch a video, but can't find any good labs. I built myself a small CCNA lab a while back but I had no idea how to test myself on it. And it's hard to break it in such a way that I don't know how I broke it. So I can't really test myself in fixing it. Does anyone know of any good websites for getting training that also offers decent labs? Or at least where to get labs? Or if there are any night time online bootcamps or something. I am not against paying for assistance, but would rather not shell out insane amounts, ~$100 a month is about what I am willing to pay, unless the service really is that awesome. I find it rather hard to teach myself what I don't know, since I most often don't realize what it is I don't know. And it can be hard to make mock tests or labs for yourself if you don't actually truly understand the material. My immediate Cert goals are to get updated Net+ and Sec+, and then to get MS server and win 7/8 certs, along with CCNA. Thanks for any help.
  6. That is certianly a nice fan, and I am rather impressed with your response time. But it is only ~34 cfm, will that be enough to replace the current fans?
  7. So, I bought a 16 bay jbod, and it has 2 super high cfm 80mm fans in the back, but they are server room loud. So I was looking for some quieter ones that will still move enough air to keep the HDDs cool enough. The units will be in a seperate room, so they don't need to be ultra quiet, but I would like as quiet as possible. My key issue is that I don't know what fans or types of fans operate best at the kind of air pressures these fans will be under while trying to pull the air through the case. This unit will not see heavy usage, at most 2 simultaneous users viewing media, but it will be completely filled with consumer grade 7200rpm HDDs. I was looking at a few of fans, but I'm not sure if they would do the job or if there are better options?? While I do know plenty about computers, specific use case for fans is a bit out of my element. Thanks in advance. This is the jbod: http://www.ebay.com/itm/151355268966?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 And here are the fans I was looking at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999612 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835129238 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835214049 Edit: Should have mentioned, these look like the current fans in the unit. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835706046
