  1. Hi mate, so I spoke to a couple of different people and they recommended I use these risers. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6Pcs-USB-3-0-PCI-E-Express-1x-To-16x-GPU-Extender-Riser-Card-Adapter-BTC-Cable/292300533830?_trkparms=aid%3D555017%26algo%3DPL.CASSINI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20151005190705%26meid%3D81984fb2dae742c795743243a79bd884%26pid%3D100506%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26&_trksid=p2045573.c100506.m3226 They're meant to be a newer revision of the risers, they use sata cables to 6 pin molex for power. So the way it would work is, from your psu, you'd connect a maximum of 2 risers using ONE sata power cable. (each cable has multiple sata ports on them but only use 2 so you don't draw too much). Then you would use the PCIe cables to power your gpu as normal. So 6 cards would use 6 PCIe ports. 2 risers would use 1 sata power line (2 connections per line). Does that make sense?
  2. I'm sure I read somwhere to avoid the molex ones, but will go with them if that's what you are suggesting. Ok just so I have got this straight. I need 3 molex powered risers for my 3 gpus All 3 cards use risers, each riser connects to ONE molex connector which in turn connects to ONE port on the PSU. Then i use ONE PCIe 6+2 port to power each gpu, using a total of 3 for 3 cards. Is this correct? So the cards draw power from the PSU directly as well as from the riser which is getting power through a 4 pin molex? Lastly, which port on the PSU do the molex connect to? Are there enough ports on the PSU? Sorry for all these noob questions.
  3. Yes it is for the purpose of mining. I have a Gigabyte Intel H110-D3A motherboard which supports of to 6 cards and has pci 1x slots. I'm just really confused on what risers I need? Some people have said to avoid the 4 pin molex ones. Which ones do I need, any recommendations?
  4. Yes mate, i have purchased that. It hasnt arrived yet so I am going off on pictures and what the spec says about how many modules it supports etc.
  5. Hi, I have bought the corsair hx1000i. I was just confused as to the maxiumum number of cards that can be used with this? I believe it has 6 ports to power PCIE but one of those is used for the cpu? Am I correct in thinking that this will mean that a maximum of 5 gpus can be used as one of the ports is used for the cpu on the motherboard? Also, What risers would I need to work with this. I currently have 3 1070's and plan to buy 2 or 3 more depending on the maximum i can run. Do I connect the cards to the risers and power them using the psu 6+2 cables? Do the risers also need to be powered? I have read that some use 4 pin molex power cables, where do they draw the power from? Surely this psu wont have enough power lines on it to power 5 gpus + 5 risers? Would appreciate any advice, thank you.
  6. Thanks for the info mate. I'm really not liking the idea of all the things I need to upgrade now. All I wanted was a better graphics card than my AMD HD6670 but now I realise it's not as simple as that. Guess that's what you get when you buy prebuilt PC's from high street retailers. Definitely not making that mistake again! Lol. Think I'm just going to hold off for another year or so and then build a new computer from scratch with parts that I can upgrade in the future. Thanks again for all your help guys. Appreciate it .
  7. Yeah I checked the website too and they say it is supported. Just don't get why so many people have been having issues with it though. And I doubt i can return the GPU if it doesnt work... Then I'd have to buy a new motherboard which will just be another unexpected cost that I don't want to have.
  8. Thanks for your reply mate. I have read on multiple sites and noticed that this is the case. Several people with the same motherboard have tried this GPU and doesn't seem like it worked for them. Yeah I would really appreciate it if you could come back with the model of the motherboard he used? I'm open to any other recommendation as well. I would like to keep the costs as low as possible. Now that I need a PSU + a new motherboard, really wasn't expecting that. Plus the fact that I've got a small form factor case, that probably narrows down my options even more... Damn.
  9. Hi everyone, This is my first post so hopefully I don't make too many mistakes . Noticed that this website is quite helpful with PC advice and gets a lot of responses so thought I'd seek some advice on here. So basically, I have a PC which I bought a couple year ago and I am looking to upgrade the graphics card in order to play some of the newer games. My PC specs are: Advent DT1411. (Small form factor, not sure exactly what it is called). OS: Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit. Motherboard: Foxconn H61MXL/H61MXL-K. (Expansion: 2x PCI-E x1) Processor: Intel i5-2320 @3.0Ghz. Graphics Card: AMD HD6670 2GB GDDR3. RAM: 8GB (4GB + 4GB), DDR3, 1333Mhz. HDD: 1.5TB, 7200rpm SATA. PSU: 405W (I think?) So my questions are: Can I upgrade to this GPU with no issues? Will my current motherboard even be compatible with it? Will I have enough room to but the card in? As PC is smaller than a standard tower. Will my CPU/RAM or anything for that matter bottleneck the performance of the card? Guessing I will have to upgrade the PSU too, any recommendations, and again will it it fit? What is 'modular' PSU and do I need it? And finally, will cooling be an issue? Read another post where this GPU didnt work with the Motherboard. Does it have anything to do with the 2x PCI-E x1 expansion slot. Don't these cards need PCIX16? http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/131922-need-some-help-with-a-motherboardgraphics-card-problem/ Originally I wanted a graphics card for under £100, even if it was used in order to get a better one. But after doing some research, it looks like the performance of the R9 270x is really good for the money. I have found one for £130 which is slightly more than what I would want to pay but I guess it is new and it does come with warranty so that's a plus and also 2 free games. Here is the link to that: http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/amdradeon... And in general, would you recommend this card or is there something else I can get for cheaper/better performance? Keeping in mind that I need to buy a PSU as well, I would like to save some money on that if possible. Any recommendations? That's about it guys, sorry if I dragged it on too much or gave unnecessary information. Let me know if there is anything else I need to provide. Looking forward to hearing your suggestions and advice. Thanks in advance!
