  1. What about vrm then? All boards I've looked at support this vengeance kit and I'm not sure how much of a differnce x370 vs x470 will make when I'm looking at higher end x470 and top of the line x370
  2. Hey all, I'm about to order a new system with a 2700 and am not sure what motherboard to pair it with. I'd really like to spend less than $200 on one and do plan to overclock memory (B-die) and cpu. Besides the x470 motherboards I can get the x370 Taichi or x370 Maximus Hero IV from a microcenter for $150. What are your recommendations for a board? Thanks! For reference this is the rest of the build: CPU: AMD - Ryzen 7 2700 3.2GHz 8-Core Processor ($289.89 @ SuperBiiz) CPU Cooler: Fractal Design - Celsius S36 87.6 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($117.29 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: Corsair - Vengeance RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3466 Memory ($209.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: MSI - GeForce GTX 1070 Ti 8GB Titanium Video Card ($504.98 @ Newegg) Case: Fractal Design - Meshify C TG ATX Mid Tower Case ($89.99 @ SuperBiiz) Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA G3 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($74.88 @ OutletPC) Total: $1287.02
  3. Yeah and all that coming off of 2/.75 last year and 12/3 currently. Glad to be moving somewhere with ISP options again.
  4. Yeah it has to be DOCSIS3.1 unfortunately, I could always upgrade later but its a waste to buy the 3.1 modem and get 250/12 I think. Good to know 20 works for you I may do some stress testing this weekend and see what it looks like.
  5. My minecraft and gmod servers use upload as does my plex box. At 12 up I haven't seen many issues but my roommate has been abroad so its only one of us gaming or streaming. I agree 250 is already wicked fast and only maxed if I'm downloading lots.
  6. So my contract is up with comcast and I want to change up my internet speeds. I host some mc servers and a plex server and my roommate and I game/stream all of the time. My options are 250/12 for $100 or $1000/35 for $130 and would need a $180 DOCSIS3.1 modem for the later. Do you guys think its worth paying more for that speed or does it really matter? My network is all at gigabit speeds with a pfsense router and ubiquiti ap btw.
  7. That being the case the i5 would give you noticeable improvements doing everything you want to do. Use the ssd to boot and get a new drive for files (raid or a backup preferred) and use whatever drive you have sitting around for minecraft. Modded servers can use multiple threads but it's still mostly single threaded. A vpn at that speed would max another thread and a couple free for fileshare, overhead is good as is 16gb of memory. Modded minecraft regularly uses 4gb+ and it allows you to expand your fileshare without running into ram limits.
  8. What kind of minecraft server? How many people, plugins, mods are you anticipating? For a vpn what speeds are you looking for?
  9. Hello I have a r710 running ESXI 6.5 and today I tried to set up a openvpn tunnel. I've forwarded the port through both routers but it still wont connect. I believe the firewall in ESXI is blocking this but I dont know how to add and exception. OpenVpn is running on a Ubuntu vm. I'm very new to networking and ESXI in general and appreciate any help. EDIT: I used this guide to help me set up openvpn https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-set-up-an-openvpn-server-on-ubuntu-16-04
  10. Had a fun idea as I was going through my old Lego collection. With the release of the Galactic Empire Titan XP why not do a Fallout Bomb style build but with the Lego Death Star 2? I little modding to the framework of the Lego would be in order but it should be possible. I would never actually build it but figured it may be a neat idea and it could even be done with the Lego Millennium Falcon and the Jedi Order Titan. Anyone else want a fully operational battlestation? 11. Thanks so much, looks straight forward enough to fumble through.
  12. Hello all, I have recently gone abroad and I have a r510 acting as a server at home. Besides using team viewer to connect to my ubuntu vm whats the best way to connect and control to exsi? Also if I want to tunnel (I want hulu back!) how can I do this securely. I'm definitely new into this server thing and really appreciate any advice.
  13. Hi all I have a pair of ADS 700-710s (not sure which) and my old tv receiver died yesterday. I'd prefer a hd reciever for my tv system but am not opposed to just an amp. What's my best option around or under $200? Would this work https://www.amazon.com/Denon-AVR-S510BT-Channel-Receiver-Bluetooth/dp/B00YAO43YG/ref=sr_1_11?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1514953188&sr=1-11&keywords=receiver Thanks!
  14. Not entirely sure which hypervisor yet, I may try esxi this time. A plex server, some windows instances and a few linux servers for messing with. May use it as a router too.
