About this blog

Hello everybody! This blog is being created to keep track of some of my low budget PC builds. I've always loved the price to performance that inexpensive systems deliver, and I hope to show others the frame-rates that can be pushed by these rigs.

Completed Build: Amethyst

Another build at last! I like to use the Maxtrexx 55 in builds like this one, but the case had been backordered for several weeks. I found this SAMA-Line ARGB as an alternative, and the quality seemed comparable to the Matrexx 55. The colour changing fan was a nice bonus. Also, you can't see it in the photo, but the RX 470 looks absolutely stupendous. I really like how Sapphire designed the card.    The specification and cost breakdown (Prices in USD):   CPU: Intel Core i5-2500; $0.0

Online Acquisition: RX 470

I regret to inform that the R9 270X I purchased locally has ceased to function properly. The card, while somewhat functional, has begun to artifact. Not being too fond of the red bars across my display, I decided to pick up a RX 470 online. Five days later, and here's the card!  This new card is specifically a Sapphire Nitro+ 4GB unit. I have to say, I really do appreciate the physical LED controller on this model. Software can be updated in a way contrary to my liking, but no one is t

Work in Progress.

After a brief hiatus, I reverted my attention back to the Dell Optiplex. Today was painting day; the paint job isn't fully complete yet, but here's a front panel picture for now.

Online Find: Two 1TB Hard Drives

Two 1TB HDDs from Free Geek have arrived! I purchased both of these HGST drives for a total of $24. 1TB hard drives usually sell for around $18-$20, so $12 per drive is pretty nice.

Scavenging Find: DDR3 and R9 270X

Here's another local find, this was all purchased for $50. •2 x 8GBs of ADATA XPG DDR3 @1600MHz  •MSI R9 270X TWIN FROZR 2GB •MSI A78M-E45 FM2+ motherboard This sale initially included 32GBs of DDR3, but through a miscommunication with the seller I ended up with 16GBs. Not a terrible deal, but I was still a little disappointed. I'll definitely be able to make good use of the RAM and 270X, but I don't have any plans for the motherboard.

Scavenging Find: Upgraded Dell Optiplex

I found this Dell Optiplex 3010 listed locally for $100. The basic specifications are: i5-3470, 4 gigabytes of RAM, 250GB hard drive, and a GTX 760 2GB. I'm planning to paint this system to give it a more "gamery" look.

Completed Build: Cyclone

Here's a pretty decent system that I built a week ago. I've been familiar with darkflash for around a year, so when I found out they had entered the case market, I decided to pick up one of their new chassis. I definitely got some NZXT vibes during assembly. Overall, the case was really enjoyable to build in.  Photo of the rig: Here's the full spec sheet, all prices are recorded in USD after taxes:  CPU- i5-3330, w/motherboard  CPU Cooler- Intel Stock, w/motherboard  Moth
