  1. Hello everyone! I recently got myself a new cpu and motherboard (still have to upgrade the rest) and i've been running into some issues where the programs will keep crashing and on one occasion my pc straight up froze completely. My specs are as follows: Cpu: AMD FX 8350 Motherboard: Asus M5A970 EVO R2.0 (bios version 2005) Ram: Kingston Hyperx 10th anniversary 2x4GB (1600Mhz) GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 6970 PSU: Coolermaster 600W Old hard drive from and old laptop (i know it's a terrible idea but its all i have due to the SSD i ordered turning out to be DOA) OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Now, onto the issue in more detail. Something feels not quite right with my pc, programs keep crashing and once it just froze as a whole. I stumbled onto resource monitor and saw this in the memory tab Now, i'm no expert but i'm pretty sure it's not suppose to look like that. Then i noticed my speed was correct, but my timings were not (it was CL11 but should be CL9) Before i set them to be CL9 my system completely froze one time. but no bluescreens (i checked with bluescreenview) I ran windows memory diagnostic and it found no problems, i also ran prime95 small fft for 5 hours, also no problems. It the second time it froze was when i had left it running for a while to the point where my HDD shut down, when it came back skype said something about not being able to get the files it needed due to a disk error or something, then my system just rebooted itself. The timings SHOULD now be ok, i'm not sure as Kingston is making it hard for me to find the correct timings. it hasn't froze again after i set them to CL9 (9-9-9-24 to be exact) but the hard faults thing in resource monitor is still all over the place. Current memory settings: (not sure if these are right as i cant find the exact timings for them anywhere) If it's a hard drive issue i'd be ok with that since i'm still waiting on my replacement SSD anyway, but i got a bad feeling that it might be something else. I'd really appriciate any input as i'm at a complete loss atm. Thank you for your time. -gOW
  2. Hello again. i was looking at either the Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 Or the MSI 990FXA-GD65 or the Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 Would one of those be a good motherboard? The Gigabyte one is the cheapest, and the Asus one is the most expencive of the three, I am on a budget, But i'd obviously want one where i wouldn't have to worry about my system crashing anymore :P
  3. Thanks @Kobz360 and @BlackOutCrisis For your help. So what kind of power delivery system am i looking for? I know that 4+1 Phase isn't going to cut it, But what should i look for?
  4. @BlackOutCrisis Thank you so much for your reply! I just have one question. Because now i'm wondering: Why would Gigabyte say the motherboard supports it when the power delivery system can't handle it?
  5. Hello forum people! I'm having some major problems and i am in desperate need of help. Allow me to explain.. A while back i decided to upgrade my Athlon X3 to something bigger, So i decided to go with an FX 8350. sadly the motherboard i used for the athlon cpu didn't support the fx chip, So due to my small budget i ended up going with a fairly cheap Gigabyte motherboard, a 78LMT-USB3. But as soon as i installed the fx chip i started running into problems. On load i would get Hardware failure errors in Prime 95, and the system would end up crashing when the cpu got under load. (i wouldnt get a bsod, but the system would freeze and my monitors would go to stanby, i have to hold down the power button to get it to turn off.) And once when i boot it again afterwords, my onboard lan would no longer function (only way i can get around that is by leaving it off for about half an hour, then it would be fine again) Now since the motherboard according to gigabytes website supports the cpu, it had to be the cpu right? Well since i wasnt sure, i sent the pc to a computer store near me. They did some tests and concluded that it was most likely the CPU, but because they worked mostly with intel they didnt have another board to test it on. So they tried a different psu and ram and such, But the error remained. They also ried to run the board with my old Athlon X3, and it would run without problems. So they told me it was most likely the cpu, So i sent it for RMA. A week later i got my new cpu back from the RMA, and guess what? I'm having the same exact problem... So i called the computer store again and explained this to them, And they said that it would then most likely be the motherboard, specifically the power delivery system (the reason they think thats the issue is that when it did crash and reboot, my onboard lan would stop working) So now i'm at a complete loss, and i don't know what to do.. RMA the motherboard? or the cpu? I hope someone here can give me some advice. Thank you for reading. -gOW
