I've created a VPN server with my Asus router, but I can't access the local network device; like my storage drive.

I followed the instructions laid out in this video:

and used the same parameters as him to setup both the VPN service and the file sharing. He claims in the video that once I connect to the VPN from the outside, it would put me on the local network so I would still have access. I've tried to access my storage device from outside of my home network but windows gives me an error.

 

Is this a case of using TUN vs TAP, or would I need to reroute traffic coming from the outside and direct it to the local network drive.

I'm a novice at this and have no idea what most of the networking jargon means.
