If you are wanting to get the FX 8300 as an 'upgrade'. Don't.

just buying FX itself is hard to justify.

Electrically the FX 6 core can work, but don't look for performance.

Because it tears apart both the FX 6300 and FX 8300.

2nd gen Intel quad core already goes faster than AMD FX 6 core

Don't get either one.

As mentioned already, even a 2nd gen Intel quad core like the i5-2500K or i7-2600K will destroy the FX 6 cores, and a fair few of the 4th gen Core i5 like the 4690K can destroy the FX 8 cores.

2nd gen parts are usually cheap.

There's nothing worth buying on any AMD platform pre-AM4

6300 and 8300 have the same TDP, so it should be fine.

anyway, as everyone suggested, changing 6300 to 8300 would get you nothing. just a very small bump.

AM3 systems is not worth upgrading, even the cheapest AM4 Ryzen (Athlon 200ge) beat the crap out of 6300 in games.

My suggestion is sell the 6300 system while there are some people that will buy and get Athlon 200ge.

oh so  you're coming from a Athlon x2, well that will be a great upgrade to 8300.
