Do I touch the power limit yet ? Or never

Turtle Rig

From all the VC research Ive done, most say don't touch the power limit or don't go over 115.  Anyhow my current OC is 2000Mhz Core and 4400 Memory.  I think Im done OCing the core as people are getting no more then 2100Mhz with my card.  The Memory tho they say can OC really well.  Im at 4400Mhz there.  How high can I go without touching power limit.  4500 ? 4600 ? Thanks all.  This is my first video card overclock in many many years.  Just started this today.  Was on stock before and 1080p all nv panel settings turned on and high quality and everything turned to the max vsync on,, Quake Champions all settings on ultra and all AA ,, as everything is on in the panel,,, and resolution scaling to 125.  I get 60fps locked, no matter what.... Sweeeeeeeet!!!

Max it out. Won’t matter either way. Some cards hit the power limit no matter what. Like my 1080s.

Can help stable an oc. So it’s an option.

My card cant boost any higher so if I oc really high and it’s unstable I max out the power and voltage.

As long as you have sufficient air flow in your case, crank the fan and power target and have fun! That card is perfectly safe to crank the power target on (as are 99% of pascal cards).

You can up the power limit, it just allows the GPU more power so it can overclock higher. You can also up core voltage but this doesn't make as big of a difference as it did in the past. I would keep overclocking it, then when it starts artifacting in MSI Kombustor, turn it down. Get it into the sweet spot then run heaven and if that screws up lower it. It's just a game of perfectly catching the values for your GPU. I think you could push it more on both though.

Thanks much all!!!!!!!!!  My thing is,, what do I set the power limit to.  115 or 125 ?  I wanna try +450 on the VRAM and +150 on the core.

I would run at max, it doesn't mean it will always draw that much power, it just means it will allow it to go around that high so you're good. I think you could run faster on the core. My 1070 (Yes I know different card) that is an FE can do around low 200s with my lower power limit and generally worse for overclocking stuff so you should be good for around 200 on core.

The card can only draw so much. Doesn’t matter what it’s on. My slider can do to 200 on power, card can’t draw that much so there isn’t a problem.

Well it only reports what the bios says. You can edit the bios to do what ever you want.

0 percent GPU usage. weird.  Should I uninstall AB and install again to fix this.  Core clock just stays at 1506Mhz gaming or not.

That doesn’t really asnwer anything.

Did you check the box for forcing the clocks? Just one small monitor hooked up? Is the memory clock doing anything?

This problem is new.  AB used to show very low clock speeds.  I went to nv panel to make sure on the PM and it was on optimal power.  Yet my core and memory said a very large figure for both even with GPU usage at 0.  Then I launch game and AB shows the core slowing down on game load screen and memory is stuck too I believe.  Everything was fine.. weird issue...
