The most horrendous builds you've seen?

Wondering if anyone else has seen a build that sends a tingle down their spine. Something like these:

Haha, honestly I don't mind the one with the figures, if it weren't some proprietary system that looks like it's ripped out of a Dell (unless I'm wrong, but that PSU and those cables just scream Optiplex or something similar to me).

They'd most likely float in mineral oil though

That fish tank one looks a different way keeping the CPU cool, using the fish tank as a reservoir, and a pump to suck the water through the CPU then return back to the fish tank, also having lights on in the PC fish tank will build up algae, the other picture you got a bunch of elves working for you, where did you ever find elves that are willing to work in the PC industry, dont forget to offer a bowl of cream.

Those elves are going to melt to death. Or possibly just get really gross with mineral oil.

Well done, i wonder about that algae problem, if there is a additive you could mix into the water to prevent algae, i wonder if a cyrogenic air liquifier could be used instead of water, need a cyrocooler to produce, the same volume of liquidfied air equal of that of water, another thing i wouldn't stick my hands in that water electricity and water, occupational health and safety.

TBH these types of builds are not what i would call bad...rather..creative.

 

IMO the bad ones are those that were legitmatly built like a normal computer, but just ended up being terrible. Like for example Walmarts prebuilds. They are suposed to be proper high end systems, yet they have crap motherboards, crap PSU, and assemble poorly.

On the walmart PC argument.... The motherboard being crap isn't an issue for a non K sku that will never be overclocked... of course they could have done better, but it isn't going to make a noticeable difference either way. The Crappy PSU is of concern, but this is for a computer with support and warranty... so it is concerning, but in the event it does fail they have a recourse. When it comes to assembly having the gpu unplugged is annoying, but I doubt that is something that happens a lot... I know 2 reviewers had the problem, but that is more likely a fluke.

 

Now the one thing I do think is problematic for those machines is that the fans in the front are air starved and not very effective. So this causes temps to be higher than they should which can lead to throttling in cases where that shouldn't happen.

Pretty sure the fish tank one is just a mineral oil PC.
