Looking for new gaming monitor

Hello, I am currently looking at a selection of high end gaming monitors and have 1 question. Should i buy a monitor with a 1920 x 1080 resolution with a 240hz display, or buy a monitor with a 2560 x 1440 or 3440 x 1440 resolution with a 144hz display? I currently use a monitor with a 1920 x 1080 resolution with 144hz. The graphics card in my rig is an 8gb asus 1070.

would i be able to run games at 1440p and 144hz? or would it be better to play at 1080p and 240hz? (my dad want to buy me something nice for christmas, because currently i dont have anything expensive that i want
