9600k Overclocking Like S***

Bought a 9600k today and a Z390 Aorus Elite Mobo.  Have a H115i 280mm aio.

Overclocking the CPU simply changing the frequency to 4.8ghz and setting it to 1.35v and it would BSOD in Prime95 immediately doing small blend tests.

I'm pretty disappointed right now.  Set the vcore to auto and ran prime95 again and temps maxed at 87c.

Seems kinda meh...

Nah, just rough voltage tuning.

Honestly though, if you NEED the extra performance, buy a better processor.

 

OCing is ALWAYS "extra."

 

My 6600k is a very mediocre overclocker, but honestly there are very few situations where you'll even notice the difference between OCed and stock.

Well I got my 7600k to 4.8ghz on a nice stable OC without much hassle.  Maybe it's just me and not understanding Gigabyte BIOS idk.  I set it to 4.8ghz at 1.4 vcore and it's still crashing in prime95.  When set to auto I can see in CPU-Z it's not even getting above 1.4.

try see if LLC (loadline calibration) helps

Tried setting it to level 3 and setting a 1.375v and blue screened on prime95 about 6 min in.

Could it be ram related maybe?  I'm using the XMP profiles.

That seems like way too much voltage.  

 

And if Auto is running 87*C then maybe it's how the cooler is seated?  Perhaps re-paste and retry?

If there isn't enough voltage then you get a freeze.  BSOD are not from too little voltage.  

 

What do your BSOD say?  Perhaps there is some RAM issue also.

prime95 is overkill for current gen temps, nothing else come close. set an avx offset of -1 or -2, up the voltage to 1.36v and you should be gucci, but make sure you can pass some blender/cinebench runs, maybe aida64 instead of prime.

I noticed while running prime at 4.6ghz (4.9 w/-3 abc offset) that my vcore showing on CPU-z was dropping to 1.308 at its lowest.  Vcore is set to 1.4 and LLC is set to level 3.

 

im not very experienced with this. Should I up LLC to a higher amount and lower vcore closer to like 1.375?
