Trying to build Super Budget PC

canadramia

So my dad's PC broke and he really only uses it to watch videos online so i figured I'd try and build him one for like $150.

I was thinking for the processor getting a Intel i5-2400.

The only problem with this is I'm nervous about buying a motherboard with a LGA 1155 socket because i feel like it won't work or will be obsolete with the other parts.

For the graphics card i have about $60 to spend on it and all it really needs to accomplish is HDMI support so I'm thinking something like 1GB of GDDR5 VRAM (it also might need to be smaller to fit the motherboard/case?)

I was just going to get a HDD hard drive from like western digital and like 4-8 GB of DDR3 RAM.

Does this look feasible I'd like to hear what people have to say about it.

Thanks for the help!

used optiplex, like a 3010 or a 3020, and stick a GTX 650 used in it. boom you are done.

I'm thinking about this as well, and i'm wondering a couple of things

does include the price of the case, motherboard, power supply?

This does look a little more future proof and upgradable.

I like the idea of how easy that is. I found a link on newegg for a used optiplex would this work?

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=9SIABYS8AC2232

yeah, but i am sure if you go on ebay or craigslist, you can get it cheaper.

find a 650 ti or a 750 ti, or a 660, and you can have a pretty good pc.

I spent a bit more but have a 7040 optiplex MT case and a EVGA 1050 ti and it games fairly well.

SFF pcs have to use half hight cards and some times slot power if you get one with a proprietary PSU connection.

for what your proposing you don't really need a card though and a good used pc will do everything he needs my 7040 was $200 i5 6500 8 GB of ram 500Gb 7200 drive

It does not include the  Case or PSU. However, you can pick up a 550w EVGA for $40 and a case for like $40.

and with this i can get HDMI compatibility through the GPU right?

I'm just wondering if i'm gunna bottleneck the system.

Also, if i get a better GPU for the optiplex will I need to change the Power Supply?

makes sense I like the opinions of everyone here but I think this would probably be the most cost effective way.

What about this?
