Upscaling via DSR 1440p to 4k for gaming

ShoshinUK

Alright good people,

I am away from PC just now and had the urge to gain some knowledge before I try something.

I have a 32", 144hz, 1440p, 16:9 display.

Will it upscale correctly using Nvidia DSR factors feature via Nvidia control panel to 4K?

Is it correct that x1.5 dsr will do the job, and aside from a small fps hit an a small additional input lag I shall be good to go in windows and gaming?

If I can push the FPS at 1.5 dsr, will I still be able to handle the increased data transfer over DP1.2 cable up to 144hz?

cheers for any experience/advise you car etc give.

You'll want DSR to downsample, in your case. From 4K to 1440p.

If you wanted to upsample, you'd use DLSS.

You need a GeForce 20xx card and only select games offer it, at the moment.

Sounds to me they just want to see if their PC is capable of getting decent FPS at 4k. DSR is right for this. What this will do is it'll render at a higher resolution (e.g. 1.5x your native resolution) and then downscales it to 1440p before sending it to your monitor.

I think for 4k you'll want 2.25x native resolution in DSR, if your native resolution is 2560x1440 (1.5 on both axes).

Crystal: CPU: i7 7700K | Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z270F | RAM: GSkill 16 GB@3200MHz | GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti FE | Case: Corsair Crystal 570X (black) | PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 1000W | Monitor: Asus VG248QE 24"

Laptop: Dell XPS 13 9370 | CPU: i5 10510U | RAM: 16 GB

Server: CPU: i5 4690k | RAM: 16 GB | Case: Corsair Graphite 760T White | Storage: 19 TB
