I get the feeling that some people are forgetting that some people (a 'majority') won't be having problems at all (including myself atm as far as I am aware of). There are quite a few factors you should consider when someone's having problems with the update. For example, hardware or software that is installed at that moment. 

 

I know that MS has a terrible policy regarding their update management as well as testing it. In this case Intel and Microsoft could've perhaps been less incompetent and just tested it further until no issues were found or whatever. They basically should've taken their time, but this rushing of feature updates should stop.

Microsoft must have changed something which makes the 1803 drivers not work on 1809. So I don't really see how Intel is to blame for "bad drivers". They weren't the ones who made the change that broke the drivers.

Well I'd argue most people actually don't have any issues. Plus it seems it's mostly related to Intel's drivers, so anyone with a desktop should be rather safe as those won't ever be used thanks to the actual graphics card drivers which don't mess up :)

It also broke hyper-v for me.  With a little  google-fu, was able to resolve by changing some security settings for the service.  but still, was a bad year for MS patches.

I know intel is pretty bad at doing 3D optimization for their video drivers but are they actually that bad as well for normal "just show me fucking 2d crap" drivers?

 

Because they're the number 1 GPU vendor so I would assume that their every date corporate computer/laptop drivers would be pretty damn solid for Microsoft to turn around with this "No u!" argument.

Considering that Intel could not get Sandy Bridge CPU GPU to clock down and not plagued with issues when Windows 10 was released, while Nvidia and AMD had 0 problem with Windows 10, and that Microsoft had to send a big team to Intel graphics chip to fix their shitty driver (and by "magic" they also fixed the old Intel driver bug where the Saturation slider was working on reverse) . And Intel has always been notorious to not be able to make drivers that works for all games, in the past, and was using a game list to just have the game run, and not crash with some unsupported OpenGL/DirectX call error, or get horrible performance. I have 0 doubt that the issue is Intel and only Intel with this issue.

 

If it were my guess, they did something with the drivers that was not supposed to work with Windows in the first place, and now that the issue was fixed (probably a security bug fix), it broke the Intel driver for some people, and Intel is having trouble fixing this.

 

In my opinion, despite charging more to consumers for their CPU with GPU integrated, Intel internally seems to treat their GPU as a "free solution", and I won't be surprised if you have like 4 people (or some ridiculous small team without any highly knowledgeable people ('cause that cost a lot of money) working on their graphics card, and Intel is just pocketing the money

I think HP users represent a significant demographic. And the networked-mapped drive issue would affect a lot of businesses.

While that could be the case, I'm not sure that's the full story and think it could be that Microsoft is trying to deflect more negative PR from itself. The Intel drivers released in September 2018, and weren't reported to be causing issues then, when Windows 10 1803 was the latest version of Win 10. It is with v1809 that the issue reports have emerged.

 

I guess that it could be that Intel released a driver that relied on some Windows functionality that was there at the time they developed and released their drivers, but Microsoft depreciated that functionality in v1809. If so, then I don't think that's all on Intel.

I don't. The original problem with data deletion had severe impact, but how many of those upgrading to 1809 at the time were affected? We don't have the numbers. It was more than zero, but wasn't close to everyone either.

Some HP users. Not all HP users. I'd argue more would be impacted by the Intel graphics driver reported here.

 

Not saying there is no problem, but I do feel they are being over stated. Don't consider me an MS fanboy either. I can give you a list of problems I have with Win10 as long as you like. Stuff happens.

This debacle is almost like Vista for a new generation, and it's a single update, for Windows 10.

 

If anyone was thinking about upgrading to Windows 10, this debacle would make them stay away for sure. I know Luke_Lafr was going to upgrade and now he isn't.

As it is I went to the trouble of getting my sister's Windows 7 Pro laptop sorted out with the free W10 update, which uses its first gen Intel HD graphics in conjunction with a MR HD5450, and after one of the feature updates (I think it was 1609), it could no longer log on to Windows 10. Not only that, but I can no longer activate it as Windows 7 Pro as the license was migrated to Windows 10 and MS refuses to do anything.

It was the same for my old laptop, which used the MR HD4250 (128MB dedicated DDR2 800) and MR HD5650 (1GB DDR3 1600) and could be made to work under Windows 10 until the same update. That laptop BTW was still capable of playing a lot of modern games albeit at the lowest possible settings.

 

That's 2x Windows Pro keys effectively killed by Microsoft once again breaking support for old hardware.
