Are different Asus Z390 motherboards just a marketing gimmick?

Hi there, I know that Asus has like five different series on its latest z390 motherboards. There's the low tier prime, the mid tier tuf, all the way to the gamer oriented Maximus. But after reading their specs I don't see much like "substantial" performance difference between them. So is buying "Gamer" asus motherboards just a waste of money? For example, the ATX Asus prime z390 is 150 bucks and the Maximus bells and whistles is gonna cost you 400-500 bucks.

Its all about features

The features the mobo has

VRM's

Quality of components

Did I say features

Buying different brands is personal preference but ASUS is good and probably pay a premium for it.

Also keep in mind the return policy for the different brands.

That $500 mobo would be a waste on games.
