Best laptop for machine learning under 1500

The thermal throttling is mainly an issue on the Vega model, the one with the 1050 ti is great

It's the 9570 model not 9575. The 2 in 1 model doesn't have thermal throttling due to slightly better cooling solution and lower heat output. The 9570 with 1050TI has bad thermals

i am considering xps 15 but it has thermal limitations but the thing is that every other laptop under $1500 has lower benchmark scores than xps 15 so i am confused

requirements

cpu - i7

memory - 8gb or more

a decent gpu

size and weight do not matter that much(portable if possible)

good battery life - 8 or more

If you're doing machine learning get a desktop.

####################  CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2500U

####################  GPU: Radeon Vega 8

####################  Ram: 8gb DDR4 2666MHz

####################  SSD: OEM 128gb M SATA

####################  HDD: Seagate Baracuda 1tb 5400RPM

8 hours of battery life is sort of hard if you want a gpu above a 1050ti especially if your price point is around 1500

xps 15 would probably be your best bet although I would recommend building a pc for something like machine learning

programming what exactly?

depending on the kind of stuff you work on my recommendation would swing between "anything will do" and "you're gonna have to spend more"

"you're gonna have to spend more".

good battery life, nice build quality, and enough hardware to make machine learning bearable.. you're looking for a unicorn.

the one client i deal with on a professional level that does machine learning recently got a dual-xeon, dual GPU workstation to do their machine learning voodoo on there, because datacenter VMs werent cuttung the mustard anymore.

I assume that you want a CFL-H i7 not KLB-R/CFL-U i7 (ULV)

Lenovo Thinkpad P52 - note that going up to higher tier CPU/GPU and UHD panel will decrease battery life, manual RAM+storage upgrades are cheaper

HP Omen 15 dc (gaming) with 70Wh battery and no GSync - i7-8750H+1050 (higher tier GPU kills battery life), default panel has low sRGB (144Hz and UHD available but reduces battery life)

Note that no one has tested the battery life yet on these models/configs, but it should last long with large battery and some tweaks. Avoid 144Hz and UHD panel if you don't need it.

AWm15 (i7-8750H+1060) with 90Wh battery

AW15 (i7-8750H+1060) without GSync panel and with 99Wh battery

AW17 (i7-8750H+1060) without GSync panel and with 99Wh battery

Thin and light with thermal issues:

Gigabyte Aero 15/15X

Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Extreme FHD

Dell XPS 15 9570 FHD 97Wh - many other issues

Asus Zenbook Pro

What do you use Python Anaconda with Nvidia CUDA usage? For casual programs I’d recommend something better than a 1060. If you plan on running for serveral hours each time don’t get any thin and light solutions.

I don’t think you will get any decent battery life if you run machine learning scripts on there (power consumption while running aside, you need a gpu which is hungry for juice)
