Which monitor should I get? Consider build quality, not price.

DVA

Ok guys, I have a few monitors lined up in the poll. I am getting myself this as a gift for Christmas. The price point isn't that big of a deal, I much prefer build quality and longevity of the monitor.

So, just let me know which one you voted for, and why if you can.  This will be my gaming monitor, I already have my photo/video editing monitor. I included prices just for the sake of having it out there.

$529.99 Acer Predator Z271U - 27" Curved - 2560x1440 144Hz/1ms - TN - G-Sync

$438.50 HP OMEN - 27" - 2560x1440 144Hz/1ms - TN - G-Sync

$$463.63 Dell - S2716DG - 27" - 2560x1440 144Hz/1ms - TN - G-Sync

$579.99 Asus - ROG SWIFT PG278QR - 27" - 2560x1440 144Hz/1ms - TN - G-Sync

Acer - Predator XB1 - 27" - 2560x1440 144Hz/1ms - TN - G-Sync

Requirements in case you can recommend something else:

144Hz/1ms

2560x1440

27"

G-Sync

Built in speakers NOT required

Vesa mounting YES

As for @jstudrawa, I'm sorry, but I won't be doing a UW this year. I'm set on G-Sync and a UW G-Sync price is a yikes for me. So that being said...

Okay, Mr. Indecisive ;) Last thread about monitors!

You know my opinion, I've stated it numerous times on these forums.  No, not about UW.

They're ALL going to perform almost identically.  Only how they look is what differentiates them really, so get the one that looks the best for you.

The i'm your forum friend answer:  Stock f-ing around and just buy one already!!! :)

I like my current Acer monitor and would likely pick the Acer version myself personally. Asus is pretty well know to be good as well but they are also well know to have the Asus tax.

I'm really considering the curved Predator. Seems like a great deal. But as per usual I take the community feedback before most purchases to get some insight

No worries, I just did a quick google to see what the Omen was and it showed up as a 27" 165hz refresh rate monitor. As to answer your OP, I've had great experience with Acer.

(Just none of those particular models)

I just got my ROG Swift PG278QR but haven't used it yet since I'm going to wait until I get my new GPU which should get delivered on Thursday. I have unboxed the monitor already and it seems really good. The build quality is really premium as far as I can tell and the monitor looks really good imo. Though I can post my final thoughts here on Friday or Wednesday (if everything goes as planned) when I have used it a little bit.

considering the curved Predator

To consider a curved monitor at all would take a hour or so of daily driving one. I don't personally think I'd prefer a curved monitor over a traditional one. That's just me though and it could potentially be nice for racing games.

How do you think it fairs with MMO's and FPS? Those are my main two types

I'm just saying personally I don't think I'd consider a curved monitor unless you can actually test it out. I mean I guess if you buy the monitor off Amazon you could always return it within 30 days (couple weeks of testing). But then you already have it and I'm sure you're more likely to keep it rather than wait for another monitor to come and test.

If the MMO you play is FFIX or WOW then no screen will fix what has become of those games... ESO is king! Just kidding, I've played FF and ESO but currently on a runescape spree lol.

The Predator would be from Newegg. I think they do have a restocking fee as well..

Having done a run of "Panel Diving" recently, it's really hard to give suggestions without really reading up on each individual model. I'd do some checking on the G-Sync compliance, as some monitors just have issues that only get mentioned in reviews.

I have now used the ROG SWIFT PG278QR for about a day and I really enjoy using it! The screen is really good, the build materials feels premium, the stand that the monitor comes with is really good. The screen is hella bright and it got a great OSD menu imo.

It's is my first Gsync monitor and It works really well in games but not in some regular programs. Spotify for example where the Gsync kinda glitches so the Hz goes from 165 down to maybe 40HZ so It feels kinda laggy while in spotify. I don't know if there is any option to fix this or if you are supposed to just disable Gsync while not gaming.

Either way, each of the screens you have thought of getting will probably be really good so just choose the one you like the most.
