Amazon Prime members get 1 week early access to watch Aquaman at some US Cinemas because why not?

AlTech

The Verge reports that US Amazon Prime members are getting a 1 week early access to watch the upcoming Aquaman movie in some cinemas before the rest of the world can.

To do this, Amazon has partnered with a bunch of cinemas in the US. It doesn't look like Amazon will be offering something similar for EU Prime members although it appears to be coming out a week or two earlier for the EU anyways.

Quote

Amazon Prime members will be able to watch Aquaman in cinemas up to six days before its official release in the US. Each subscriber will be able to purchase up to 10 tickets for a 7pm showing on December 15th, just under a week before the film officially opens on December 21st.

Quote

The early screening of Aquaman can be watched early in around 1,000 participating cinemas across the US including branches owned by AMC, Regal, National Amusement Theaters and ArcLight Cinemas, and you can use Atom Tickets to book. December 15th isn’t quite as early as the film’s release date in Europe and China (which comes between the 7th and the 14th) but that’s unlikely to matter to the biggest fans of DC’s cinematic universe.

An interesting idea but I don't see how this is beneficial to Amazon's bottom line. It looks like Amazon might lose more money on Prime than it already does if they keep this up.

Yeah. I was randomly walking around my Uni campus and there was a guy from Amazon giving freebies to Prime members :D.

I ended up with a pack of one of Amazon's brands of Coffee. :P

It's probably a win-win for both Aquaman and Amazon prime. Amazon will promote the movie and in return they get incentives for their Prime members with early screenings. The customer still buys the tickets to the cinema so they're not missing out on ticket sales.

Ultimately who cares though? It's a DC movie, it's not as if you're seeing Avengers 4 early.

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

No?

I would prefer if all movies went straight to Streaming services cos I don't watch many DVDs or go to the Cinemas much at all lately.

I would even pay nearly the same to be able to stream it same day as theater release.

Who says it has to benefit their bottom line for it to make sense? I suggest you look up the term loss leader. Might learn something.

Also, they likely don't pay for the tickets. It's marketing for the movie. It was probably written off by the studios as an expense.

But why? I never understood the early access thing. I want to watch content so I can talk about it with other people. If i'm one of the few who watched it, then I have to wait around a week to finally talk to friends about it.

You can get up to 10 tickets....So hit up your friends and go watch it early together.... Pretty easy solution.... If your friends are in a different area, have them pony up for some Prime and get tickets....

I might do this... I have friends that would eventually watch it with me, so if it isn't at a higher price... well cool.

Then again, with $5 tuesdays/thursdays... I would be surprised if the price is cheap enough.

This is actually pretty cool. I'll go a week early to watch it. People complaining about the DC movies I don't think we're comic fans, I thought they were all good (except man of steel)

See and even as a comic book fan... Man of Steel was the best post-Nolan DC movie.

Wonder Woman being a close second... (brought down only by some really really awful plot inconsistencies)

But I suppose in the end, everything is down to taste.
