How do I give permission for other Machines to make files on Server Location?

LiamRobinson

Hi,

I made a Server Location the other day by making a folder and making it a server. But when I connect other machines to the server it saids that I cannot create any kind of file.

Not sure, all I did was create a folder on my Desktop and then made it a Network Location.

When you "shared" the folder you most likely put the folder as "read only"... go back to that file location, and right click on the location in the sidebar... and edit the share, or "give access to" and choose the user you want to be able to edit files (read and write). The "user" is the name of the login you use remotely.

So for example, I have a share called "media", I go to the location in the file explorer, on the left there is a window that usually brings up the location there also. Right Click on "media" and then from the menu choose "give access to" and then choose the "user" you want to give access to, or choose "homegroup view and edit", if you do that though it will let anyone that is on the same homegroup edit, make and delete file too... so be careful with that way of doing things.

If you already ahve the share set up, but just need to change the access, choose "specific people" from the menu instead, and there you can change the access to "read and write"
