Gmail account is the same as Google account. You can't "delete" one without the other.

Yeah you can.

I am confused about this part:

If you change your mind, you may be able to get your Gmail address back. If it’s been awhile since you removed your Gmail service, you might not be able to get your emails back.

Does it mean I will not get the emails back or the email address back? I dont need the emails back, just the email address.

All the controls for Google you'll need. You can delete individual Google products all the way at the bottom of the list...

The deletion doesn't happen immediately. So if you return quick enough before the deletion is done, you may or may not get them back.

As for email address - I'm assuming if no one takes the address you are using during that time, you can get it back. But it is still not guaranteed.

Makes no sense why you are deleting it in the first place if you may want it back at one point.

Free mail services often recycle e-mails, but they have a long recycle period to prevent abuse.

I was checking GMX the other day and they recycle e-mail addresses 1 year after they got deleted. Meaning the address needs to be inactive for 1 year before someone else can pick up the same name. This way they prevent abuse in terms of someone picking up your old address and receiving mails someone sends to your former e-mail address. It's considered your contacts get to know you've changed address in 1 year...

You want to delete the email... but still want to have the possibility of re-creating it again later on?

Umm... Why? Why are you going through the trouble of deleting it if you're just going to remake it again? You won't be getting any less spam when your recreate it, your email will still be on spamlists the world over. If you just don't want to get notifications on your phone from gmail, that can be arranged easily as well.

Just leave it be and never access it, simple as that. You're making your life a whole lot more complicated than it needs to be.

It means that you may not get address back as someone else can register it after 6mo to year idle time. I would think same goes with emails when Google removes idle accounts from their servers.

But the google account is still mine. Google accounts log in by email address.

Ok I actually tried deleting gmail. You have provide an alternative email address and verify that address before Google will allow deleting the gmail address, so you can use that email address to login to your google account.

I cant remember if it has to be gmail address or any email address.

Google's other services work with any email, so I think it can be either. Like you can share Drive and Calendar to non-Google accounts.
