Switching my GTX 1070

Hey , so with black friday and cyber monday around the corner i was thinking about upgrading my gpu for something like a gtx 1080 ti or rtx 2080. I currently have a i7 7700k paired with my 1070 , also 16gb ram and a 1080p 144hz monitor. I was wondering if i would see some major performance change and if i would get bottleneck by upgrading this gpu

Thanks.

With 1080 Ti stock depleting, you likely won't get a deal on those cards. The 2080 is a possibility, but is still pretty new so if any sale goes on it will likely be a small one. Either way, the 1070 should perform just fine for 1080p 144Hz, and you likely won't see that much of a gain by getting a better card. If you upgrade your monitor to 1440p and >60 Hz then I would consider upgrading your GPU.

My Build, v2.1 --- CPU: i7-8700K @ 5.2GHz/1.288v || MoBo: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E Gaming || RAM: 4x4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 2666 14-14-14-33 || Cooler: Custom Loop || GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC Black, on water || PSU: EVGA G2 850W || Case: Corsair 450D || SSD: 850 Evo 250GB, Intel 660p 2TB || Storage: WD Blue 2TB || G502 & Glorious PCGR Fully Custom 80% Keyboard || MX34VQ, PG278Q, PB278Q

Audio --- Headphones: Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX || Amp: Schiit Audio Magni 3 || DAC: Schiit Audio Modi 3 || Mic: Blue Yeti

[Under Construction]

My Truck --- 2002 F-350 7.3 Powerstroke || 6-speed

My Car --- 2006 Mustang GT || 5-speed || BBK LTs, O/R X, MBRP Cat-back || BBK Lowering Springs, LCAs || 2007 GT500 wheels w/ 245s/285s

The Experiment --- CPU: i5-3570K @ 4.0 GHz || MoBo: Asus P8Z77-V LK || RAM: 16GB Corsair 1600 4x4 || Cooler: CM Hyper 212 Evo || GPUs: Asus GTX 750 Ti, || PSU: Corsair TX750M Gold || Case: Thermaltake Core G21 TG || SSD: 840 Pro 128GB || HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB

R.I.P. Asus X99-A motherboard, April 2016 - October 2018, may you rest in peace. 5820K, if I ever buy you a new board, it'll be a good one.

Nvidia stopped production of the 1080Ti, so prices will skyrocket as stock dwindles. Your best bet would be the 2080. But at 1080p (even with 144Hz), the difference would be negligible at best. I'd just get an additional 1080p monitor, or upgrade to 1440p (1070 is great at that resolution) instead. If you did get a 2080, there wouldn't be much of a bottlekneck with your CPU.

Hi, I just came acorss your thread and was wondering if ou woudln't mind sharing your monitor & pc rig specs. I am thinking of getting a 1070 but not sure if it will suffice my needs of recording/streaming + gaming at the same time. Would you also mind sharing the fps you get on the games you play? E.g h1z1, pubg, cs:go, bf1 or gta v. I am buiilding my first ever rig and quite limited on budget so asking people with similar rigs or components I am looking at buying. Thanks :)
