Need Support For Picking Parts (its been a while)

TheSensFan

It has been close to 10 years since I have done a build.  My i7 920 Bloomfield running at 4GHz has served me well.

But its time to put that puppy out to pasture and start a new build.  When I started researching I had not realized is how far AMD has come and now I am more confused as I was simply going to pick up the latest i7 and go from there.

Anyway, the build as is for most it seems is 75% gaming and 25% Adobe Prem for video editing.  I plan on running at stock for a month and then start looking at OC.

I am looking for:

  • CPU
  • CPU Cooler
  • RAM
  • MB

I currently have in the system:

  • Full ATX case
  • GTX 1070
  • EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2

My budget is $1000 CND taxes IN.

Looking for any advice!

Cheers!

If you have an ok cooler for your current chip it should still be usable, if you are on the stock cooler then it would help a lot if you told us what case you have or at least the CPU cooler height clearance :)

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

you should be able to get a full 2700x or 8700k setup for that budget. I wouldn't go with 9700k since it doesn't have hyperthreading.

Perks of 2700x: better for editting, more cores, and comes with a nice cooler

Perks of 8700k: better for gaming, higher core frequency

The case that I will be using is the Phanteks Enthoo Pro.  I plan on buying a new cooler as the one that is on the current i7 will still be used in in a new case.

Looks as though the AMD Ryzen 2700x is the CPU of choice here.

Was simply looking at picking up the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO as that is what I had on my i7 and did so well.

Any X470 MB suggestions if I plan on OCing in the future?

I was looking at the ASUS ROG Strix X470-F Gaming and it looks decent.  But wonder if there is a board of equal performance and OC ability for a better price?
