Using USB-C for all connections required for using a desktop

Hello

I have to move between 2 places monthly and want to have desktop grade power and as much portability as possible but dont want a laptop. So I was looking to put together my pc using a small mini ITX motherboard and small case. It would also be quite handy if I only need to plug in the power and 1 usb-c for all my peripherals. Is it possible to get the video from a dedicated GPU through the motherboards usb-c port, is it necessary that its a Thunderbolt port? I am always very confused in which cases you can get video over usb-c and in which case its just a usb 3 with a different connector.

gonna be blatantly honest here..

 

save yourself the hassle, and go for a 3-connector solution, instead of a 2-connector solution.

AFAIK, if you plug your display into Mobo, it only uses integrated graphics. There is no way to make your PC use the dedicated GPU if you're using integrated graphics.

i've done the whole "pc in the other room" setup, and a 5 meter HDMI cable gets you quite the distance, for quite the little money..

it was more a case of "doing because he can", and because he used one of the stupidly long thunderbolt cables it made cable management a whole new level of "easy to deal with".

Yeah I've also found that Thunderbolt extension card but it looks like to much of a pain to get it to work. It will probably be a three cable solution. It would have been nice tho. When do you guys think usb-c will be standard for video output? Thanks for the answers btw
