Installing Windows 10 on new PC

I'm building a new PC and I wanted to know that if I download the media creation tool from my current PC to install Windows 10 on the new one, will that render the version of windows on my current PC, (WIndows 8.1) unusable?

If you choose the upgrade this PC option it will override 8.1 but, it should keep your files. (Though I'd back them up before just in case)

no. the creation tool can be downloaded by anyone an infinite number of times. the only time something will affect your current install is when you enter the product key to another install of windows

Judge the product by its own merits, not by the Company that created it.

When you'll run Media Creation Tool, it will ask you if you want to upgrade the current computer OR prepare to install or update another PC.

Thanks guys. I also have one more question. Can I download the windows 10 installation media from my current PC with the version of windows it's running (8.1) and still be able to use windows 8.1 on my current computer? Does it change anything about the computer I download it from?

As long as you pick the option mentioned above, even if it the same computer, you are fine. All you are doing is downloading Windows 10 Setup (latest officially released version), and preparing a USB Flash drive (which will be formatted), or disk. There is no license or link to anything.
