Alienware M17x R4 CPU Fan trying to cool GPU?

After my GPU kept over heating I spent a few weeks troubleshooting and I finally decided to take the back off my laptop and put it on its side. I noticed that as the GPU temp increases my CPU fan speeds up instead of the GPU fan. So in a programing sense Fan 0 which is supposed to be CPU is confused as Fan 1 and visa versa with Fan 1 which is supposed to be GPU. Is there a way to fix this?

 

I've tried to do it in bios but dell in their ultimate wisdom has locked out the fan controls and I haven't found a way to unlock the bios. I've also run the diagnostic tools from the boot options and the video fan test spins up the GPU fan. Then did the same thing with the CPU fan and the CPU fan spun up. But as I type this now I can feel the GPU is hot but the CPU fan is running almost maxed out but my CPU temps are just fine.

 

I have been able to slap a band-aid on this by using HWiNFO64 but I have to start it every time I start the laptop. It also will stop responding after a few hours and the only way to get it to close is to unplug the power adapter which 50% of the time causes the system to crash. Then it also will cause the system to take like an extra 2 minutes to shut down. I have wiped the system clean 3 times, installed every single driver, and even redid the bios all the way from the first release. None of this has worked. Dell also refuses to fix this as its out of warranty. (Honestly don't know why it should matter as its a dell caused issue.) If i could just get into the software that's causing this issue and rewrite the fans I could fix this but that's above my knowledge.

Bios: InsydeH2O A14

OS: Win 10

Processor: Intel Core i7-3610QM 2.3GHz 8 CPU Processor

Graphics: Dual Graphics Intel HD 4000 (bios calls it Intel Ivy Bridge) and AMD Radeon HD8970M (bios calls it ATI GFX)

HDD: ST9750420AS 750GB Hard Disk Drive

RAM: 2x 8GB DDR3 Memory

AC Adapter: 240W

Swap fan headers for both fans to the other?

yeah I can't do that as the fan cables are only like 2 inches long but I see where your going with this. Are there extenders I can get for that. Note just in case you missed it I'm using a laptop not a desktop computer.

maybe look around in amazon or ebay? These are niche products.

Yeah I found some but I'm concerned they connect to desktop fans that have larger header plugs than the laptop ones in less there all the same size?

How wide are fan connectors on your laptop? Desktop ones are 1-1.25cm wide.

too bad I can't find one. Maybe you need to cut the current cables in half in the middle, and extend them with extra wires

That is an idea. What I'll probably end up doing is taking the fan to a couple stores that may have cables and check the sizes. Thanks for the help you got me thinking outside the box. I was so fixated trying to fix the software that I missed that much simpler solution.
