Which motherboard would you choose?

I'm looking to build a new system and I've been out of the building scene for quite some time. (I'm still rocking a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L with a core 2 quad 6600 and 8 gigs of ram after a decade or so its finnally starting to show signs of messing up (wont hold 3.0Ghz OC any more and windows keeps have a driver power state error and crashes) SOO I've been researching and my beloved gigbyte seems to be a a mid tier company now. any ways, I've decided one of these two boards : ASRock Fatal1ty X470 Gaming K4 AM4 AMD Promontory X470 or MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC

I think would be good. they are within 5 dollars of each other in price. I'm in heavy planning state, and may add water cooling in the future but probably stick to stock cooling for now or at least a good after market HSF.  I'm leaning towards the ASRock just beccause its X470. (i'll porbably be using an R5 2600 CPU for now. I dont really game so much, fortnite with my son and some times starcraft 2. But I want the option to play other stuff. Ark looks interesting as well as no mans sky..I know GPU plays a big part on this, but I havent figured out that part yet. I dont want to spend 300-500$ on JUST a video a card..) Any ways so which board? Thanks in advance.

Yep, buy the X470 Fatal1ty. That other MSI motherboard is garbage.

Thank you. As far as video cards go, would an RX 570 with 8GB RAM be adequate? or would an Nvidia 1060 6GB be a better buy? (currently have an Radeon HD6750 IIRC.. yep it is, found my old invoice from Tigerdirect.)

Sure, but the Fatal1ty board is way better than the B450 Gaming Carbon. It looks better, has support for SLI (whereas the MSI board doesn't), has more SATA ports, has better VRMs and VRM cooling, etc.

 

Since the Fatal1ty board is only $5 more than the Gaming Carbon, I consider the MSI board as absolute garbage in terms of value.

i see.

although imo the msi one looks better. But the gaming pro carbon has wifi, which is worth 20$ so thats another thing to consider.

my router in literally 4 feet from PC so I hard wire in. But I see where it could be a large positive to some one who does not have that option.
