Looking To Upgrade Over The Next Few Months

TheProdigyTM

Hey all!

First id like to say hello!

I'm looking to upgrade my rig to something a bit more capable as my current setup is getting kind of tired (mainly the CPU and mobo)

Currently, I'm running :

AMD 8120 with a Deepcool AIO cooler oc'd to 4.1

16gb or DDR3 ram

GTX1060 6G Edition

800 Watt platinum EVGA power supply

And way too many old hd's lol

I'm looking to upgrade basically the whole rig but it's been so long I'm lost with all the new parts and requirements haha.

I mainly game on my pc but I do make music with Ableton and Traktor pro so I need something with some kick. I'm aiming to spend around 1000 total as ill probably keep my Video card for now

But I don't want to have to upgrade right away so a good mobo and CPU are a must the rest can be upgraded slowly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated haha

DDR3 system are dead. You wanna upgrade at least to a AM4, which mean a new DDR4.

Since you have a 8 core, a 4 core 8 threads ryzen cpu would be lovely.

I recommend Ryzen 5 1500 at least.

Ryzen 5700g @ 4.4ghz all cores | Asrock B550M Steel Legend | 3060 | 2x 16gb Micron E 2666 @ 4200mhz cl16 | 500gb WD SN750 | 12 TB HDD | Deepcool Gammax 400 w/ 2 delta 4000rpm push pull | Antec Neo Eco Zen 500w

Welcome to the forums!

You have a good clear upgrade path. I'd also upgrade the CPU, motherboard, and RAM first. What EVGA PSU is it?

I'm suggesting a Ryzen 7 system with your budget, you'll have to see if there is an AM4 mounting kit form DeepCool for your AIO cooler. For the time being the R7 2700x comes with a great stock cooler.

What is your PSU specifically?

Here is what you can do:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant
Type Item Price
CPU AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor $159.89 @ OutletPC
Motherboard MSI - B450-A PRO ATX AM4 Motherboard $89.99 @ B&H
Memory G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory $134.99 @ Newegg

This choice can be further upgraded if needed. More RAM, different AM4 processor later on. It can also overclock.

Wow, thanks for the replies so fast!

I'm liking the Ryzen route as well as they seem to be more towards budget and multi-tasking.

And sorry I made a mistake my PSU isn't an EVGA its a Thermaltake TR2 700w, my EVGA stopped working broke and I forgot I replaced it with that a while back so it might need replacing as well, to be honest.

Also, my case is TRASHED from me moving it around so many times when I first built it and am looking for something nice and that has room for upgrading and water cooling. I do plan on doing a custom loop eventually but for now, I really like the AIO setups they have for CPUs and graphics cards. They seem to work amazingly well. As for RGB, I'm all for it if it looks good. So I figure I might as well go for a case with RGB and if I want to make it more I can later with upgrades!

Thanks again for all your input!
