A few questions about buying GPU's second hand. RX 480 RED DEVIL

Wetpig

So I messaged a dude about a Powercolor RX 480 RED DEVIL he had, I asked if 165$ is ok and he said it's fine.

So I just want to ask, what are the things I should watch out for - should I ask him to show me it works....

Some of the photos he has of the card:

Well, it's always nice to be sure that the card actually works. Two things I would personally consider is that (as you said) just make sure that the card is working, like see if the seller can send you a picture of the card running a stress test to ensure that nothing is wrong. And see if the seller is willing to take returns, in the unlikely case that the card was heavily used and ended up dying on you after a month or so of use. Other things will probably require you to have the card physically, like pcb damage, strange noises, and what not. As jstudrawa said, there are tons of sources online in what to look out for.

The site offers a test then pay feature. I person agreed, I get the item shipped, I test it for 15min to see if it works and then pay.

Oh yeah, that works xd. Once you get it, I'd take a look at the card to make sure everything seems intact, nothing is broken/ damaged, run some benchmarks or a game. You should be fine. My pc is like 50% used parts and a year and a half later, nothing broken yet.

I honestly would like to just pick it up from the person. But I really don't trust people around here. Better pay 5$ shipping - I also need to test it with a VGA adapter to see if it works with my monitor, if it doesn't............. (I plan to get a new monitor very soon)

It would be very cool to walk around school with the box  though ? - ah the drama within me
