Why not 16x2GB sticks?  /s

What are you using the machine for? Without knowing what tasks the machine needs to perform, it's hard to provide advice. For typical users 2x8GB (16GB) is more than enough RAM. Having more than you need won't make the system go faster.

Would 2x16 gbs of ram be good for the z390-a mobo from asus or 4x8 gbs of ram?

Current Pc Parts:

-CPU: Intel i7-9700k

-GPU: EVGA RTX 2070 black edition

-CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken x62

-Mobo: Asus z390-E gaming

-Ram: Corsair Vengeance RGB pro 32g @3000MHz

-Storage: Samsung 850evo 256Gb

-Storage: Toshiba 1Tb 7200rpm

-Case: NZXT H500

-Extra: NZXT Hue 2

@TheDeathDragon 2x16 is better for gaming, less stress on memory controller so you can overclock it higher (then again, dont really need 32GB)

MSI GX660 + i7 920XM @ 2.8GHz + GTX 970M + Samsung SSD 830 256GB

It also loves your wallet, or so i hear.

That said someone like me who has a ton of clutter open in the background can benefit from more than 16gb. Especially if you like to alt tab ot for any reason mid game.
