Hard drives often prove to be slow, this is not a software but rather a hardware thing,

also depending on the file you read and/or write it could take significantly longer to transfer/find.

I would recommend using the windows tool Defragment and Optimize Drives, this may help your hard drive.

well, it seems to be a very old machine so that is whats expected... special if its a P-ATA Drive (parallel) if then might be SATA 1 wich is painfully slow too... where are you taking those readings from?

Main PC:| CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 @ 4.1, MOBO: Asus B350 PRIME , RAM: LPX Vengance 2400 16gb kit, GPU: 980Ti Poseidon Platinum 6gb
PSU: SilverStone Strider Gold Evolution 1200w , CASE: HAF 932  HDDs:240gb EX900 HP NVME 6TB (2x3 Seagate Barracuda)
                COOLING: ThermalTake Contac Silent 12
Laptop:MSI GL62 7RD  CPU: Core i5 7300HQ, RAM: 16GB 2400mhz, :GPU GTX 1050 2GB: HDDs: 256gb adata NVME + 1TB HDD

love all brands, will go for whats cheaper for my needs

It's sata II, got the readings from Task Manager, sometimes 450-500 kb, sometimes 7-10 mb, is it normal? running pentium d 915 cpu.

those are the peak of what the programs are using, not the limit of the machine itself, but then again, it being a very old machine, its bound to be SATA 1 or P-ATA so, sata 1 is 150mbps, might wanna download CrystalDiskMark or some other software to check that, but 7-10mb is quite normal

very normal. Random speeds for a hard drive are very slow. Get a ssd if you want higher speeds.

Task manager is only reporting the activity that happened in the last second, and not everything being transferred from the HDD is going to be relatively large files. You need to use a benchmarking tool to get its actual performance.

thats normal for a hdd.

HDDs are slow as the head has to move to access the data, not much you can do. A ssd is faster, but really thats a old system, just get a newer computer.
