So im building gaming rig for 1080p with a gtx 1080 and was wondering if I should get the 2600X or 8600k? The 2600X has more threads and is cheaper. But the 8600k seems to have higher FPS.

for pure gaming, the 8600k will beat the 2600x because it has a higher IPC. If you will be doing multi tasking such as streaming/gaming/rendering etc.. the 2600x is the better option.

The 8600k should be able to overclock to 5ghz, at the clock the 2600 has no change to keep up at 1080 with a 1080

the 8600k has intel uhd 630 which is use in video editing to hardware accelerate.

As you said you are using it a gaming rig so 8600k, but in day to day uses like web browsing, watching videos....etc no difference.

I may be wrong.
