The laptop was upgraded to an SSD around March 2017. Currently facing GPU issues with both Igpu and Dgpu, some apps won't launch if it was set to run on the Igpu(Movie maker, powerpoint - not optimal error) and some app( like Microsoft office 2013) crashes when its set to run on the Dgpu(Nvidia GT720M) 

 

No idea if I should change my laptop to a new one.

To be 100% honest with you I'd replace it with something newer if your having this level of issues, you can get a new laptop and save money by getting one with a standard HDD which then you can transfer across your SSD.

I built my computer 2 years ago so not old at all, and I probably won't be upgrading. I got a nice deal for a 1080p 144hz monitor and a nice deal on a 1080 it wasn't really a deal but due to mining and memory shortage, the 1080 was cheap compared to 1060's and 1070's). So yeah, I'm all set for the next few years. Not really into the rtx stuff cause it's still new tech and it'll probably take some time to optimize and make better (there's stuff nvidia released that's still buggy and fps costly as hell like phyx and  flex and that came out 2014/ 2015?). I think the only upgrade I would like to make in the future is a m.2 ssd. I'm currently running a 256gb ssd and 1tb hdd, which is amazing as is, but sometimes, I would like to clear out the "extra" cables and just toss in a 2tb m.2. We'll see how much the m.2 prices go on black friday.

My specs are in my signature. I've only owned this PC in this configuration for about a year. The only things I might upgrade soon are the CPU (probably an X5675) and the GPU (only if I find a good deal locally or on Black Friday/Cyber Monday). After all, the only game I play that would benefit from a faster system would be PUBG, and I don't even play it that often.

My first build is like 4 years old and its the most important one that I want to upgrade, maybe even rebuild. A better case, a better CPU, a better mobo maybe. Almost everything.

 

The second build I made also needed some upgrades, like a new CPU and a new graphics card, like Ryzen.

Tried the latest one available and supported still the same even on windows 8.1(this laptop came with windows 8 ) and I did multiple clean install and the problem is still there

Oldest part is from 2008. Newest 2017. At the moment I have no need to upgrades, GPU will be next.

Most parts are about 9 years old, no real reason to upgrade atm, gpu is about 1-2 years old I can't remember

My desktop is 6 years old apart form one HDD, 8 of the 16 GB of ram and RX 580. Had a 7970 GHz edition that died about half a year ago so had to buy a new GPU and ended up with 580.

 

CPU is i5 3570k.

 

Will probably end up buying a new basically everything apart from maybe GPU when Zen 2 comes out. That has at least been my plan.

It's a year and a bit old at the moment, kinda thinking of a GPU upgrade at the moment. A RAM upgrade would be nice too for video editing, as well as an SSD/extra HDD/more fans would be nice.

Overall it does really all I want it to do, just some things that can be improved.

The core of my system is 7.5 years old; other parts are more recent. I'm not looking to upgrade soon because its performance is still adequate for my uses and I won't be home for the next semester anyway, so I wouldn't take advantage of an upgrade. Maybe after I get my master's degree (hopefully before march 2020) I'll celebrate with an upgrade.

Base is 5 years old, i5 4430, 8GB od RAM, PSU and RX 480 are 1,5 years old, 500 GB HDD and 128 GB SSD are both 5 years old too and I have a new 500 GB SSD for about a month. Processor/Mobo/RAM combo will be probably replaced next year, waiting for Ryzen 3 but not in a hurry. The worst thing is probably case which is budget and has terrible airflow.

I bought my PC second hand back in 2013 and I've upgraded pretty much all parts but it's still a X58 LGA1366 system.

later 2013 - I upgraded the ram to 12gb

January 2014 - I bought a GTX 660

April(?) 2014 - I bought a 120GB SSD

Early 2016 - I bought a second gen HP Z400 because I wanted to get a 6 core Xeon. It had 2 more dimm slots so I also upgraded to 16gb of ram

2016 - I bought a 250gb SSD

Mid 206 - I bought a GTX 960 from a friend who upgraded to a 1070

Mid 2016 - I bought a Xeon X5670

a bit later 2016 - I bought an Asus P6X58D-E because I wanted to overclock the Xeon. I also got new case (Define R5) and power supply

 

I haven't made any bigger upgrades in the last 2+ years.

I don't see any reason to upgrade anything else than the GPU (GTX 960 2gb) and probably the ram (16GB).

Most of my current gaming machine is less than a year old, but I do plan to upgrade it soon. I have a 2080ti just sitting around and will be probably grabbing a 9900k soon for a new build for it instead of draining the loop on the other system to add it in.

 

Honestly though I upgrade every year or two at most, then sorta do a hand me down system where that next machine becomes just another gaming rig in the lab for nephews, kids, company to use. Then I normally retire and/or give away the oldest rig in the lap... or sometimes turn it in to a gaming server for games that need the high ST performance like ARK.

 

My main problem now is I just don't have time to really game very much. My window is normally when the twins are napping or after the go to bed, but then I have to juggle that free time with doing other things around the house or spending time with the wife... so it just doesn't leave much time for gaming. I somehow manage to find the time to build a new rig though lol. I guess these days I enjoy getting the parts and building the machines more than I do actually playing on them.

My newest system is about a month old. Will update the cooling since I am running the stock cooler for the 2700. Getting a few PVM fans for the case and a few SSD's for games. Probably going to be a Christmas present to my self  Will probably upgrade the graphics cards when games get more demanding.

CPU and motherboard is 3 years old now while the GPU, most of the watercooling stuff, and case is brand new. I think I'm gonna run the CPU and motherboard till they fail but I'm looking to do a storage upgrade and maybe add more RAM soon.

Cor Caeruleus has been with me since 2009. He's undergone several changes over the years. 

 

He underwent a costume and motherboard change in the summer of 2017. He saw a new Nvidia X80 GPU every generation and a 5970 (greatest AMD GPU, in my opinion). His CPU's were changed between an i5-750, i5-4690K, and then the 8700K. His drives have dropped from 7 with the Rosewill Challenger to 4 with the Fractal R5, but that's largely moot thanks to the file server.

I think the oldest component i have on the computer itself is one of the HDDs on it, 5 year old Seagate Barracuda 2TB drive, but other than that, everything is from this year. 

And the oldest thing that i happen to use with my computer is for sure my Onkyo A-817XD amp from 1988, but it performs great and i really like it, its not going to change soon (maybe never, who knows?) 

I'm looking forward on upgrading my keyboard to something nicer and that's about it.

Haha that's like the Ship of Theseus paradox. If you keep replacing parts on it, is it still the same computer? If yes, what if you took all the old parts then reassembled it?

My pc is the same same, but different, think it is 5+ year by now and it is All used parts more or less atleast. 

Started with a i5-4670 and a 770gtx, 8gb DDR 3, with the launch of the 900 series I got a deal on 2x 970 because the owner wanted a 980ti instead, so I got like 40 discount on a few month old cards, bought a new sli ready mobo for this tho. 

Friend saw a package deal on 16 gb DDR 3 from a shop that was closing, so we splitted those and got 8 each, so now I I'm on 16. 

Some time later with the new cpu release some dude sold a i7 4790k and a dh15 cooler for under 40% of a new price, and after I sold my i5 it was extremely cheap. 

Started hating my sli setup, sold a 970, ran single for some time, and boom comes the 1000 series, a mate of mine bends a fan on his 1070, takes it out of his pc cause it is "broken and noisy" 

I take that poor broken gpu home remove one of the 3 fans, stress test it and sees a max temp on 70c. Call my friend and says I wanna buy it for the lulz and get a fully functional 1070 for 1/3 of the asking price of a new one... So yeah, an all new used pc for cheap, still holds up nicely on a 1080 p / 120 Hz monitor, and don't see the point in upgrading yet cause my pc is crushing it price/$ wise

I had been using the same laptop from 2012. With i7 3610 and GT650M. Decided to upgrade when it is just too slow to run Photoshop and Lightroom for work, is the reason I told my fiance why I am getting a new computer.

 

The truth is my laptop can't runs Neir Automata.

 

So I upgrade a few weeks ago to a desktop with R5 1600 (planned to upgrade to zen 2 next year) with a 1070.
