Please help! Drive no longer recognized/readable after Paragon HFS+ installation

Charkley

I'll be completely transparent about this. I was given a cracked version of Paragon HFS+ from a guy I work with because I needed to access a Seagate external hard drive formatted for Mac for work. I installed it, and while now I can read that the Seagate drive, my WD My Book Duo plugged into my motherboard's USB Type-C port is no longer being read or recognized.

I've uninstalled Paragon HFS+, scanned using MalwareBytes, used Revo Uninstaller, and cleared out anything from the registry, but I still can't restore access to my WD external hard drive.

Would love to know what I can do to fix this. Thank you so much for your time.

does it show up in diskpart in command prompt? What about in Device manager?

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

I've checked Device Manager and it doesn't show up at all. How do I find it through cmd prompt?

it probably wont show up there if it's not showing in device manager, but launch diskpart by typing "diskpart" into elevated command prompt, from diskpart "list disk"

What worries me is that your my book duo is a a 2 drive enclosure with raid 0, meaning the data is striped across 2 disks, not spanned. Raid 0, while providing the capacity of both disks and a speed improvement, is a very risky way to configure something, meaning a slight failure in either disk and all of your data may be gone.

This, or built in drive encryption, means just taking the disk or disks out and throwing them in your computer is not the answer here.

This goes without saying probably since I'd bet you've already done this, but restart both your pc and the drive enclosure.

Also, try plugging it into a regular usb port and see what happens. Should come with a usbc to usba cable. Maybe even try another computer.

Listing the disks using diskpart didn't show it. Just my internal drives. I've tried plugging it in through USB-C and with a regular Type-A on several different ports... Nothing... Very worried now. I can't believe something like this could possibly wreck both those drives. This is a fairly brand new unit too. Not even a month old.

no they're just really unreliable and tbh im not sure it was the program you ran. It just may have line up with when you used it.
Try another computer. This is one of those problems that I wish I was there to solve, because it's hard to know what's up until you look at it yourself.
If it's newer, you could try contacting their support since it would still be under warranty. Do not mention Paragon, just say you cannot detect it now.

To be clear- I've never used paragon and I don't exactly know what it does to do its job, but it's worth giving WD support a try without mentioning it
