WhatsApp found a place to show you ads

A WhatsApp VP says the messaging service will start showing ads alongside its popular Status feature, reports The Economic Times. Speaking at an event in New Delhi, WhatsApp Vice President Chris Daniels said that the ads would be the service’s “primary monetization mode for the company” and would offer “an opportunity for businesses to reach people.” No timeline was given for the change.

Now We will see more ads in our life :)

I can't believe we need ads for messaging services. Seems crazy, but they gotta scrap every penny they can get from us.

Also gonna have to add a source, and quote and your own opinion to make this a valid news thread

I would rather pay a yearly fee and opt out of ads, if that is possible.

I think, They will not provide a premium version but let's see when they launch this feature what happens!

I remember there was a time where you had to pay for WhatsApp, got the first year free then you had to pay(though it was easy to get around). That's going back quite a few years as I was still in high school and I finished 5 years ago now.

There was no ads back then though whether you paid or not.

Now Era is changing, Premium Whatsapp is not beneficial as compare to whatsapp with ads for them.

Look, it's owned by Facebook. That's it. That's all there is to say.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

They used to operate based on that model in 2014 and 2015. It was free for a year and then $1 USD per additional year. In 2016 things changed and they switched to Free.

Well, since I don't use WhatsApp that very often, I might as well just stay away from it a little further than usual. I get it from a business perspective they would add advertisements on their app, but not from the social perspective because (and I hope) more and more 'mainstream' people are starting to dislike ads on apps.

Telegram!

100% free, doesn't hoard data and has no ads. Much faster and smoother than whatsapp as well

That's an F in the profile pic

There are many good alternatives but the big thing is userbase! Whatsapp has a great user base and it's not easier to make everyone switch.
