New Asus GTx 1080 FOR ~$500 good deal?

d3athAdder

hi, i am getting a good deal for new Asus Gtx 1080 around $500.

Currently running Gtx 570. I will be gamming on 1080p. no plans of changing that in long run.

Will this card hold up like 5-6 years from now till i get unplayable framerates?

or should i shell out more money and buy RTX 2070 at actual price only for its new features?

The 1080 will be fine, granted you have a beefy CPU to back it up. You're otherwise wasting both money and performance.

Oof, that's going to be a heavy bottleneck unless you've put on a nice overclock.

I wouldn’t pay that. As I bought my strix for less. I assume that’s what it is and not a turbo. I’d go used 1080ti before I pay that price for a 1080.

Sounds like a good deal on the 1080 and gives you a nice card to transplant into an upgraded system if/when you upgrade the core platform.

Thanks!

I agree with the bottleneck. You'll need to OC or get a better processor if you're gonna get the 1080. I have an i7-8700 and a 1060-6GB, and it's running fine for me. I only play a handful of games, but they run pretty damn well at 1080p high-max settings. I never dip below 60fps

will it be a bottleneck on 1080p @60fps as well ?

Yep. You're probably going to run that GPU at less than 50% usage in most titles. Then again, it is 10 years old now. You might be able to snap a Xeon X5670 for a decent price and plop that in, as long as your board has the latest BIOS.

If you're gaming at only 1080p60, a 1070 or even 1060 6GB should be absolutely fine for a few years.
